I'm a sucker for Southern Gothic scary stories, and Peggy Randall-Martin's Backwater does not disappoint. I loved the creepy and dark undertones throughout this story. The plot and pacing are spot on, and the details suck you into the madness of the La Bauve Family. Reminded me of that old movie: Hush, Hush, Sweet Charlotte, with Bette Davis. Perhaps my favorite part of this story is the ending, which I thought was pretty darn clever. I have been thinking about that ending ever since I finished ...more
