This is the sequel to The (Magic) Warble. Victoria Simcox has gone deeper with this book, and it is more geared to ages 13+ and she really steps up the story! It was a nice change to see. This was made easier by the fact that the main character, Kristina, is now 15.

So it has been two and a half years since she was last in Bernovem. It almost seems like a dream. Yet a a summer camp. her horse is spooked and she, Hester and Davina literally find themselves tumbling back into this magical land fil

Victoria Simcox has done it again! In this beautifully crafted sequel to The Warble, The Shard takes Kristina Kingsly and her not so amicable classmates back to Bernovem. She is reunited with her friends in this magical land, where the fun begins again. Prince Werrien invites her on an adventure of a lifetime when they travel to his homeland of Tezerel.

Kristina again shows the depth of her character and the strength of her spirit when faced with seemingly unsurmountable evil. Along with her dwar

This sequel to 'The Warble' is a wonderful follow up. Kristina, the main character, has grown up a little and finds herself unhappy at summer camp. Suddenly Kristina is transported back to the fantasy land of Bernovem along with her friends/enemies, Davian and Hester are girls we love to hate. However she is happily reunited with the Prince! There is a sweet romance that begins with Kristina and her prince now that they are a bit more mature. Kristina is faced with many choices and the consequen ...more

I read and enjoyed the Warble, but The Shard which is the sequel to that wonderful tale is EVEN better in my humble opinion. I loved the time that has lapsed since the first book, allowing some growth and development in the characters and the fact that the author was able to capture these changes perfectly and speak to all of the changes in a manner which readers of the first book could appreciate but new readers also could easily pick up the story. An strange accident during horse camp will sen ...more

Having read the 1st book in this series, The Warble, I was compelled to read the 2nd!! It did not disappoint. I loved these types of stories when I was a young teen. As a result of a freak accident, our main character Kristina finds herself back in the magical kingdom of Bernovem. Victoria Simcox does a wonderful job dealing with issues that plague teens of today with her use of a magical kingdom. There are bullies, villains, gnomes, wicked queens and a prince! All the elements of a great story ...more

Having read and enjoyed 'The Warble' I was looking forward to book 2 in the series. It did not disappoint. Victoria Simcox's book grabbed my attention from the first page and I continued on the journey with the older Kristina to the end. What a great writer! 'The Shard' presents a darker world more suitable for teenagers than 'The Warble'.

Both Hester and Davina continue with their bullying. Their conduct is despicable. The young prince, Werrien, has fallen in love with Kristina so it's no surpri

After reading The Warble, I was really excited to start The Shard, and this is a sequel that does not disappoint. I found it even better than the first book - the plot solid, the characters well portrayed, their adventures really exciting, and their development natural, yet obvious to the reader. I love the world Victoria Simcox created. It's simply mesmerizing and it takes you somewhere far, far away. Like The Shard, I felt every young reader should experience the journey this author takes you ...more
Satisfying sequel
With The Shard, Victoria Simcox continues Kristina's journey in the land of Bernovem where she meets up with her prince, Werrien, yet again.
But this time, things seem to be going wrong at every turn and no matter how hard, Kristina, tries to shrug off her insecurities she is haunted by sickness and taunted by an old hag who just won't go away. Delightful vivid scenes and a wonderful ending that will have teens and the young at heart wanting more.

THE SHARD is part two in the Bernovem Chronicles. Once again, Kristina finds herself with Prince Werrien in the land of Bernovem. She will be on an epic journey across the sea to Werrien’s homeland of Tezerel. Victoria proves to be a talented author as she weaves book one and two together flawlessly. Waring, reading this book will only make you want to read part three.

The Shard is the second book in the The Bernovem Chronicles, an engaging fantasy series written by Victoria Simcox. I’ll freely admit that before reading the first book in the series – The Warble - I had never read any fantasy. I enjoyed returning to Bernovem in The Shard.
Three years has passed since the heroine, Kristina, returned from Bernovem, a fantastical world filled with magic, fairies, talking animals, and a prince who she befriends. She questions if these events and people were real or

This is a Christian YA Novel, the second in The Bernovem Chronicles. I also reviewed the first in the series, The Warble, a couple of months ago. They're books full of intrigue, heroes, heroins, and a smidgen of romance. There are some writerly punctuation errors, but I'd give it a solid four stars.

In The Warble, Kristina finds herself dumped into another world called Bernoven along with two of her favorite enemies, Hester and Davina, and with her pet rat, Raymond. Together with the help of the

The Shard is Book Two of the Bernovem Chronicles and I was thrilled to return to Bernovem with Kristina and her friends! This well-written and quite magical story is highly entertaining and will keep you turning the pages. While targeted toward a teen audience, this is truly a fun story for all ages.

It’s been a little over two years since Kristina has visited Bernovem where she is reunited with Prince Werrien. He and Kristina are attracted to each other, but this causes upset and jealousy with

Gripping Fantasy
Kristina is 15 now and her previous visit to the land of Bernovem at age 12 when as “The Chosen One” she restored the Warble to its rightful place and broke the evil spirit holding the inhabitants hostage seems like a dream. She would love to step into that dream and see Prince Werrien again.
Meanwhile, taking horseback riding lessons at “Tranquil Trails Horse Ranch” is anything but tranquil for Kristina with her two nemeses there, Davina and Hester. When they team up against Kris

I read this second book in the Bernovem Chronicles after reading the first. Yes, the first was that good!!

Kristina and the kids are a bit older than they were in book 1. After returning to our world, life became somewhat normal again. Well, as normal as life can get after you've met gnomes, dwarf, fairies, and your dream prince.

Now, I hate to be judgmental, but I know how Kristina must have felt when she suddenly finds herself pulled into Bernovem again with the same kids who annoyed her the fir

Kristina is returning to the magical land of Bernovem in “The Shard (The Bernovem Chronicles Book 2).” A few years have passed since the events of “The Warble (The Bernovem Chronicles Book 1).” Kristina doubts her memories of her experiences in Bernovem a few years earlier. Joined by Hester and Davina, she is transported back to Bernovem where she is reunited with Prince Werrien.

Victoria Simcox’s style of writing is reminiscent of J.K. Rowling, but her voice and the saga she gives voice to are

In the Shard, we return to the delightful world of Bernovem and its inhabitants of talking animals, fairies, and dwarfs. Kristina, our hero from the first book, is older now, and at times, she feels like the entire time she spent in Bernovem was a dream. A stay at summer camp soon lands her back in the magical realm where she gets reacquainted with old friends, as well as the charming Prince Werrien for whom she is developing feelings for. And while things couldn’t look more idealic, there is a ...more

Kristina returns to Bernovem, a place distant in her memory and a place she never expected to visit again.

Victoria Simcox has done it yet again, creating a fantastic tale for all ages and one that does not disappoint.

Well thought out and crafted, it was wonderful to see Kristina in the thick of it again with her friends Davina and Werrien.
Kristina, like the story, has matured and this heartfelt tale explores relationships and romance.

In The Shard, the sequel to The Warble, Kristina returns to Bernovem, the charming Prince Werrien's home.

In this fast-paced magical adventure, Kristina is two years older and at age fifteen is growing into a beautiful young woman. Prince Werrien is now seventeen and the lighthearted young romance between these two character grows even deeper in this second installment of The Bernovem Chronicles. Kristina encounters more trials as she finds herself sick more than once and isn't sure who she can

A great story of a magical world full of adventure, with people and fairies, gnomes, dwarf's, and witches plus animals and birds who speak. The story continues on with Kristina, Hester and Davina united with Prince Werrien who is now seventeen. Adventures take them into dense forests over mountains and across the sea on a ship named after Kristina to the island of Tezerel.

The next fantastic installment of this fantasy series, which has convinced me to add this genre to my reading tastes.

This fast paced never a dull moment story has Kristina and her schoolmates back in Bernovem but there’s an air of danger. Though she’s thrilled to be with her friend Prince Werrien, things quickly change when Werrien becomes enamored with a seeing stone or the Black Shard.

Kristina is up against countless obstacles and her courage and strength are tested in ways she can’t imagine

In comparison, The Shard was just as good as the first book in the series. I found the adventure, danger, mystery, and other lands in the kingdom very entertaining. I enjoyed following Kristina on her return journey to Bernovem. Characters only briefly mentioned in the first book make their appearance more known in this one.

The storyline was very entertaining and the fantasy worlds were filled with wonder and danger. I can't wait to see what Kristina has to face next. I love her show of strength

Exciting second book

The Shard is the continuing story in The Bernovem Chronicles. Filled with talking animals, dwarfs and magic, it's a great adventure. In this second book, Kristina is tormented by a sea hag who tricks her into thinking shes cursed herself and the land. She also finds out that not everyone is as they seem. I enjoyed the adventure but most of all, I liked the element of faith within the story. A great read for kids of all ages. Looking forward to the next book!

Book two in the series is another magical, fantasy adventure that takes Kristina back to the land of Bernovem. I love how the author captures the character of Kristina and of Werrien, a special person in Kristina's life. Being a teenager is hard and the author shares Kristina's frustrations with peers but also adds in the wonder and beauty of good friends and possible relationships. The story is great for young adults and will also take adults back to a time of growing into adulthood in a splend ...more

In the second book of the Bernovem Chronicles, Kristina once again finds herself in the magical land of faeries, drarwves and gnomes. This time, she is a bit older. This story has a bit less action than the first, focusing more on Kristina's friendship with Prince Werrien. It is a magical tale, just like the first and I am looking forward to book 3 in this series. While it is meant for kids, the writing is so solid adults will love it as well.

Kristina returns to Bernovem and continues her adventure in the magical land. While I find the writing superb and the characters wonderfully imagined, this story was not quite as good as the first book in the series, The Warble. I haven't told her about the second book yet because I'm going to surprise her for Christmas, but she keeps asking did she finish writing the book yet? Did she finish yet?
