A brilliantly colourful and enchanting picture book story that can also be used to teach children the days of the week and to count one to ten.

There once was a king who wouldn't sleep -- not even a wink! -- until he found the perfect prince for his lovely daughter. Princes came from all around bearing gifts. Not one of them was right for the princess. But there was someone

There once was a king who loved his daughter so much that he never slept so that he could find the perfect prince for her. Unfortunately the King didn’t really think that any prince was perfect enough for the princess. Soon all the princes around were trying to think of ways to get the King to sleep so that they could talk to the princess (and perhaps fall in love with her). But nothing worked. Very cute (and novel) counting book, suitable for a -slightly longer- storytime about an overprotective father, determined to find the best possible suitor for his princess, and no possible prince will do, until a very clever farmer arrives, and has the kind count off his animals, to the delight of an enraptured audience, winning the heart of his princess. Great illustrations.

The king won't sleep in order to protect his princess from all the princes who want to marry her. But when a clever farmer starts bringing different animals to the palace for the king to count, he finds a way to get the princess. Fun story with some counting elements.

Unexpected ending. Modern fairy tale and well done. I loved that the princes came from all over...

Love the connection to the age old sleeping technique, which makes it lots of fun, but the story is common place and predictable.

Clever and entertaining. This one will keep the kids guessing and they will still be surprised.

This is one of those clever children's books that probably amuses the adult slightly more than the child!

Cute story.

The king can't sleep until he finds the perfect prince for his daughter. The trick to winning over the king and princess just might be to find a way to get that king asleep! Who will figure it out?
