I am very proud of my mother for writing this book. When we found out that Jillian had vision trouble we looked for answers. The only resources were science novels that my mother could not understand. We recieve emails from parents all the time. Some of these stories have brought us to tears. They say that they never would have found help if it were not for this book. I am honored to be Robin's daughter. ...more

Written by Robin and Jillian Benoit, this story tells of their struggles with Jillian's vision problems and the family's search for answers. Robin is the mother of one of my current students, and she shared this book with me.

I am impressed by this fierce mother who wouldn't take 'no' for an answer...from doctors or schools. She continued to search for the best way to help Jillian see the world. She was diagnosed with amblyopia, lazy eye, and when the doctors said Jillian's sight was as good as

Very quick read, but describes so many children to a tee. Vision Therapy is something that most people don't understand or have never heard of before although it is a successful practice. I recommend this and Fixing My Gaze to any teacher or parent that has or knows a child with 'educational difficulties.' Vision Therapy is not strongly supported by some medical professionals, but it's strongly supported by research and success stories. It's always worth looking into... ...more

As a vision therapist it's very difficult to fully explain the diverse and complex challenges all patients face when putting vision therapy exercises into practice. This book, although it is one particular view of it, is an excellent example of how difficult vision therapy can be to find or pursue and the benefits gained from the long-term effort involved. Like physical therapy, vision therapy reminds us that there are rarely quick-fixes for something so important in daily life. ...more

Such a wonderful book. Only 80 pages long, but it took me longer than normal to read it all. I had to stop several times to just cry. Was wonderful to know that someone out there had experienced what we are going through with Mason.
Vision Therapy isn't something that is well recognized, but should be. It has helped Mason tremendously! He is now able to zip up his coat without assistance. Something that he was not able to do before due to his binocular convergance. VT is something many people sh

A must read for everyone! I had strabismus surgery when I was 3. All my life I struggled in school, either fell asleep or got horrible headaches while reading & had debilitating anxiety. Finally at 24 years old I got tested for learning disabilities. Come to find out most of my problems were due to the way my eyes were working (or not working, in my case). I was recommended to get Vision Therapy, and found an amazing doctor. At my first appointment I saw an ad on the wall for "Jillian's Story" I ...more

There's good information here, but keep in mind the narrative is written by a mom, not an author. I commend her for writing the book, however, because people need to know what helps exist through vision therapy. ...more
