A Gift of Trust

Rate this book
When Matt was forced to move away, suddenly and without warning, the day after taking her to the Christmas Ball, he broke Lib's heart and shattered her ability to trust in love.

Three years later, he's the last person she expected to run into on a bus heading home for the holidays.

As the two of them reconnect, Lib finds herself just as drawn to him as ever, but her wariness compels her to keep her distance. Devastated by his failure to keep in touch over the years, she's determined to protect her heart--almost as determined as he is to make up for lost time. Matt seems intent on winning her love. But this time, he'll first have to earn her trust.

A Gift of Trust is an erotic short story (61pages) about second chances. It's angsty, realistic, emotional, gripping, and well written. It's also the perfect story for a quick holiday read.

For the most part, I enjoyed this story. I really liked the interaction, dialogue, and chemistry between the hero and heroine, Matt and Lib.

Matt was a great hero. Unfortunately, I can't say the same for the heroine, Lib. Personally, I found Lib's behavior during most of the book frustrating. Her constant lamenting, woe-is-me, I'm so confused attitude about the hero became tiresome and redundant. Her lack of self respect was disappointing and the reason I wasn't able to fully enjoy their first love scene. While the heroine eventually demonstrates a greater strength of character, for me, it was too little, too late. However, it was a fine moment when Lib finally called Matt out on his reason for ignoring her.

I really liked Matt's character. He was honest, contrite, and swoon-worthy. I could feel his desperation, sorrow, desire, and commitment to make things right with Lib and to make their relationship work.

The best part of this story was the short feel-good epilogue. It put a smile on my face and made A Gift of Trust a worthwhile read.

I love short stories and/or novella's. They are usually the perfect little package when you want to read something short and sweet. Or short and naughty. Whichever the case may be. I'm also a huge fan of the "we used to be friends, a long time ago, but we lost touch" kind of thing too. Unrequited or unclaimed love, and all of that. It makes me swoon and my heart swell.

A Gift of Trust hit the spot when I went looking for something along those lines. Young Lib was in love with Matt and when he escorted her to the winter dance, it looked like things were finally falling into place for her. They go to a sweet little romantic spot, the fountain, in town. It was, in my mind, their spot. The place for a budding young relationship.

Then, the next day, Matt was gone. He'd up and moved away and crushed her heart. Even though he didn't have any choice, Lib still blamed him. When he shows up again, she is determined not to let herself fall for him. But Matt has other ideas.

As a female it was so easy to relate to Lib and her mixed emotions. Jeanette gives her just the right amount of emotions. Lib is a real character - so much so that it feels like you're reading the story of a friend. Or yourself.

And Matt. Oh how he can make a girl swoon with his sweetness and sexyness. I definitely found myself rooting for them. You can't help but want them to work things out - especially when all is revealed and Matt gets his chance to tell her what happened the day he left.

A Gift of Trust is a story full of sweetness and light. It will make your heart happy.

Full disclosure, I won this book in a contest. But I entered the contest because I've read some of her other stuff and I luuurrrve it. So:

Jeanette is so good at reminding you, in short story time, about those angsty things that happen in love. She doesn't create a mood as much as tug at your memory, saying, "Oh dear lord remember when you felt THIS WAY?!" Gah. Yes, yes I do, thanks. This story isn't as smexy as some of her others, but the sex here is honest and true- no huge throbbing cocks and perfect fits (jebus!), and Lib is no blushing virgin, and not a slut: she's a girl, a girl who needs and wants and sometimes says to hell with how much pain my heart will be in, and just gives in to it.

I just downloaded Unacceptable Risk, which I will probably read before all the other stuff that is teetering on top of my TRB pile. Sometimes I just give in, too. ;)

I downloaded this short after the author joined the SFR Brigade and I saw the blurb on her web site. Although not Sci-Fi Romance, the premise intrigued me enough to give it a try.

I'm glad I did. This is a heartfelt story about remorse, lost love and second chances. I especially enjoyed the hero, though I felt the heroine had every right to be wary and questioning due to the pain he had caused her in the past.

I'm certainly looking forward to reading this author's SFR offerings in the future.

A short and sweet piece, perfect for Christmas time. Lib was extremely easy to relate to as a heroine, her fears and insecurities something that I think everyone feels at some point. And Matt. Oh, Matt. You had me at flecks of jade and tousled hair (my kryptonite).

Their journey was bumpy, but believable. The only thing I longed for was...well, more length. As it was, though, it ended on a very sweet note, and the epilogue had me grinning ear to ear.

A Gift of Trust is a short story, but it felt like a full length book to me. The author did a great job of conveying the couple's history to the reader. Their attraction and getting back together was very believable. This one also has some well written erotica scenes. The inclusion of an epilogue is something that I like to see even in a novella. It is nice to see how they HEA turns out.

Liked this overall, but do have to admit to a fairly large suspension of disbelief in how hurt Lib was by Matt's defection for a couple reasons. First, he was underage in high school, so wouldn't have much say about where he lived, moving, and all that. Yeah, he could have contacted her later - and his reasons for not doing so were also kinda weak. And she based her trust in other romantic relationships and partners on this relationship with Matt, which, from what I could tell, consisted of growing up together, her liking him, him asking her to a dance, one kiss, and then she never saw him again. Just didn't ring quite believable to me. But, JG is a master at making you feel the current relationship yearning, desire, angst, and joy, so overall enjoyed despite those minor details.

i REALLY enjoyed this novella - it was a delicious midnight-snack of a read. i love Grey's ability to tell a meaty story succinctly, without dragging the reader through chapter after chapter of unnecessary angst just to fill pages. this was a well-paced, engaging, and left me feeling warm inside.

Good quick read, read it in one sit. I got this book free off of Amazon. It's a bit of an erotica which I really didn't expect. Enjoyed it cause I could relate with the female character, with her thoughts and emotions. The only thing is that it doesn't build up to anything, it's a quick and to the point kind of book which could be a good or a bad thing.

Very good

I enjoyed the story but it was real short, story lacked a build up you find in most stories The shortness of story contributed to that. Basic story was very good.

Sweet!

A tender and sweet short story that reminded me of how sweet and overwhelming those first few moments of your first kiss can be.
