The rating is for the first volume. The review is for the whole series.

This manga is (arguably) the most popular basketball sport manga. Even after more than a decade, I haven't found a better sport manga for the art or for keeping thrilling matches (especially THE final match of the manga).

I don't know what manga that started it, but it is popular to start a sport manga by telling juvenile delinquent theme for multi volumes before switching into sport theme. Slam Dunk used this approach too. I

Growing up, Takehiko Inoue's Slam Dunk was an anime that has truly captured my imagination. Primarily because it features a basketball playing protagonist and the sport is entwined into the socio-cultural fabric of Philippine society. I frequently saw myself as Hanamichi Sakuragi, especially the way he bumbled around learning to play the sport.

The source material, the manga has the more complete story as the animated series covered only around two-thirds of it. We may never know the reason why s

This is is one of the most popular manga ever. I was honestly a little disappointed, but only a little. There was nothing about the volume that was that special, but when reading something so popular and influential I want that extra element that really elevates a story. That said though it was pretty damn hilarious at times and the story was entertaining even if it was generic. The art was below average though, with the character designs being kinda funky and unnatural.

I don’t usually enjoy mangas with stupid people (excluding Naruto here) and I did get pissed often of Sakuragi’s way of thinking or not thinking at all (should have counted how many times Tensai was used) and yes the quotes are never that striking or meaningful but… compare this manga with your favorite food. Mine’s spaghetti. For me, it doesn’t matter if they’re too salty, or overcooked, or too spicy or too saucy, or if they’re incredibly delicious but I’m so stuffed I feel like puking, because ...more

This..I have to say is an ABSOLUTE PURE CLASSIC for Manga/Comic.

Even if you're not a fan of basketball or any sort of sports, this is not to be missed.

It begins with a red-haired super tall freshman delinquent, Sakuragi Hanamichi who happens to been rejected by 50 girls. Seriously 50?? That's a record! LOL

Anyway, he was madly head over heels when he met Akagi Haruko. Haruko was so taken by Sakuragi's physique and thought that he could be the saviour for the School's Basketball team (her older

Rebound Hanamichi setelah dioper-oper sampai ke Takenori...nnnnn...bola masuk dengan gaya "alley oop" (istilah baru nih :))

[Note: this is a review of the entire Slam Dunk series, not just the first volume.]

Slam Dunk is an unparalleled expression of the shounen manga that captures the hearts of readers in a way no other shounen manga before it has done and none after it is likely to do. The series relies on the tried and true tropes and patterns of shounen manga. We have a hot-blooded protagonist, cool and arrogant anti-hero, and slightly nuanced variations of these and other archetypes. What makes Slam Dunk so great

Pocas veces me he reído tanto en tan pocas páginas.
En cuanto a la edición argentina: es bastante más fea que la española (sobre todo en calidad de papel y encuadernación), pero la traducción es mucho mejor, ya que pueden mantener los juegos de palabras con "Basket" con mejores resultados que el "baloncesto" español.

This comic is got to be the best sports comic ever published!!!!! It captured all the elements that every boy as a teenager will go through. Shohoku's perseverance, enthusiasm towards basketball is unparalleled to any other teams that they have played. They had won games that they wouldn't have won because their strength are really below the standard, however they could always start a run, turning the lead around and maintain the lead to the sound of buzzer signalling the ending of the game. First before going into this review, I want to give you some context. I am NOT a sport fan. Soccer which everyone seems crazy about around here bores me to death. And believe me I tried but I can't seem to get interested in sports, particularly team sports and that's even more true if that sport involves some kind of ball. I guess it just bring back bad memories of the PE classes where I would get attacked by evil balls.... :D

I was first introduced to the works of Takehiko Inoue by reading Vagabond, I found that a pretty good manga series with amazingly detailed art and brutally visciral action-sequences. After that I read Real which blew me away with its incredible characterization and equally fantastic art.

Slam Dunk, however, is the series that made Mr. Inoue popoular in the first place and seeing as I greatly enjoyed his previous works it was only a matter of time before I'd check this one out as well.

To be clear, I'm not into basketball manga. So I like Kuroko no Basuke. It's the characters that made me addicted, not the game itself. Oh, and the super cool moves the characters often do. Otherwise, I wouldn't have picked it up at all.

The same goes for Slam Dunk. What made me interested was the characters. I really wanted to see Sakuragi manage to impress Haruko since she was the first girl who was nice to him. Rukawa (no, I am not attracted to him!) seemed like a funny character in his own wa

Sakuragi is a "hot-headed" basketball freshman "phenom" who joins his highschool basketball team in order to impress the love of his life, Haruko. It's a shame that Sakuragi doesn't know how to play!

im rating this whole series 5 stars, not for it's literary content (it is manga afterall!) but for the nostalgia it brings me and its humor.

i read this whole series as it was being published back in the early-mid 90s, when i was in junior high and high school. I read the korean translation as it was a huge hit in korea at the time. i remember going to the local bookstore every two months for the new copy. the lady at the bookstore always saved one for me.

Takehiko Inoue (井上雄彦) is a Japanese manga artist, best known for the basketball manga Slam Dunk, which has become a success both in Japan and overseas. Many of his works are about basketball, Inoue himself being a huge fan of the sport, and many Japanese children started to play basketball because they read the manga. This in turn helped make basketball popular in Japan and across East Asia.
