Whether you are a newcomer to the country look or a long-time admirer, you can use this book as inspiration for decorating--or simply accessorizing--your own home. You will find rooms that display an effective mix of fine antiques and contemporary pieces, and those that are furnished with period reproductions. There are rooms that are intentionally spare, designed to display one or two valuable heirlooms, and rooms that overflow with flea-market finds, decoys, and quilts. Still others--decorated with lace, bric-a-brac, and richly upholstered furniture--embrace the flowery romanticism of the Victorian era. Yet despite their differences, every room in this book shares a common bond: the warmth that is the heart of country style.
I have an eclectic sense of style, so I can't say everything in this book impressed me. However, a lot of the ideas in this book where delightful, and even many of the rooms shown that I didn't care for were nice in their own way. It even has the occasional how-to on things like making a fabric screen or taking care of baskets. Even as someone who isn't strictly into country decor, I would definitely recommend this book to someone who is. (I'm also tempted now to track down the other books in this series.)
