Simone Elkeles is a New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of novels for teens. Simone’s books have won many awards including being YALSA Top Ten Quick Picks for Reluctant Young Adult Readers, being named to the YALSA Popular Paperbacks and Teens Top Ten lists, and added to the Illinois “Read for a Lifetime” Reading List. Simone also won the coveted RITA award from the Romance Writers of America for her book Perfect Chemistry. Simone is especially proud of the fact that the Illinois Association of Teachers of English named her Author of the Year.

Simone was born and raised in the suburbs of Chicago, where she still lives today. Simone went to the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign and received her Bachelor’s of Science there in Psychology in 1992. She continued her education at Loyola University-Chicago where she received her Master’s of Science degree in Industrial Relations while working for a manufacturing company creating diversity programs for their employees.

She loves animals (she has two dogs – a labradoodle and a German Shepherd), kids (she also has two of those) and her family. In her spare time she’s the Hockey Mom for her kids hockey teams and is an active Girl Scout leader specially trained in outdoor education. She also spends time mentoring other teen and adult authors. (She also loves sushi, which you can probably tell by reading her books.) Simone writes about teens because she was a teen in the 80’s (when spiked hair and blue eye shadow were “rad”) and she loves writing about those exciting teen relationships and romances.

Original review on Julalicious Book Paradise

I was starting to doubt that I would ever get to read another book in this series when no dates could be seen anywhere, but finally, it came and it made me really happy. I love Simone Elkeles' writing so much and I couldn't wait to read more from this world.

This book reminded me from time to time of Perfect Chemistry though the relationship between the two main characters wasn't anything like Alex and Brittany's, their backgrounds were quite similar to them. He's seen as the bad boy and she's the good girl from the good family.

He is in love with her and she’s dating his best friend. Vic, can’t seem to forget her but he will suffer rather than to betray his best friend. He is quite loyal and that sums pretty much Vic Salazar in this story. He has attitude that could point him as a bad boy, but he isn’t really. He likes to have fun with his friends, but he’s really a caring person. He may not always show it right, but the intention is there.

Monika is every parents dream, but she’s obviously tired of being so overprotected. She doesn’t just look like any average popular cheerleader; she is one. But, she has quite overprotective parents and in this book, you can tell she’s trying to prove to herself that she isn’t as fragile as they believe.

The two of them are best friends, but throughout the story, while you know Vic’s feelings for her have been there for quite a while, you get to see Monika’s perspective of the boy change even though she’ll try to deny it.

When a tragic event occurs, both of their lives are changed and trying to do the right thing isn’t always easy when so many secrets are kept in the dark. While he pushes everyone away, she only wants to connect with the guy who has been there for her; who knows the real her.

I was really glad familiar faces came back in this story like Alex. It’s always nice to see where him and Brittany are at. There were some background stories that I really liked too, but I won’t spoil them for you; you’ll just have to read this book and find out ;)

I really liked this book, but I did prefer the first one. I do wonder what the next book will be about and I really hope it’s Vic’s sister, but who knows who Simone has in mind for the next one.

Half of the book was the main characters pitying themselves. NOTHING ELSE HAPPENED! That was it. They just felt sorry for themselves, and both characters were stupid af.

WTF? Simone wrote Perfect Chemistry... how could she produce THIS? What's wrong with the world? The only reason why I FORCED myself through it is because Simone is my home girl. But this crap will not fly. It was literally:

Vic: poor me
Monika: poor me
Vic: I love you but I can't be with you
Monika: Me too. I hate myself
Vic: I hate myself too
Monika: I'm going to stay in my room all day for half of the book
Vic: So am I. I'm such a delinquent.
Monika: Sleep with me for one night, but actually be with me forever. I'll get super mad if you say no even though I specifically said let's do a one night stand.
Vic: omg I hate you. Stay with me though.
Monika: I hate you too. Poor me.

You don't need to read it now because that's the whole book. You're welcome.

I loved Wild Cards and automatically assumed I would love Wild Crush too. However I was disappointed and left quite unsatisfied with Wild Crush. While Wild Crush was easy to read, the story was bland and lacked originality. The development of the relationship between Vic and Monika was near non existent! I don't want to be told that they had known each other for a while and suddenly realised their feelings. I want to be shown! Chuck in a flashback or something! Give me the initial butterflies!

The book contained quite a number of cliches and pet peeves of mine - a nasty ex girlfriend who's still pining over the main guy and bastard boyfriend who neglects the main girl. There was an interesting twist midway which made the story depressing and just cast a bad mood over everything. It's like the main characters weren't allowed to be happy after that. The ending was really rushed too. This book just wasn't what I expected. I've come to read anything Simone writes and this one just missed the mark.

Disappointed. :( The build up was goos but the ending feels rushed. I really liked the characters but the plot and the stories didn't bond well.

But yey for Alex's appearance. Hehehe

I always say, whenever you read a Simone Elkeles book, you just have to finish it in one sitting. It was true with Wild Crush too, but what is different with this one, it was disappointing. Like, really really disappointing.

Simone usually always writes about hot Mexican bad boys, and we have Victor here. But she didn't make me swoon about him, she didn't make me wish he was my boyfriend. Until now, she always managed to do that.

This book just felt blah on so many levels. I didn't really feel the storyline, I didn't feel the characters and I didn't feel their connection.

I only gave it 2 stars because my all time favorite Mexican bad boy Alex Fuentes made a reappearance.

If she writes another book, I hope she does it with her usual pep and swoon-worthy material.

I didn't connect to the characters at all. I felt like everything was really fast paced and I didn't understand the feelings the characters were having. I don't know... I've struggled with contemporary books lately. So it could just be me.

Well, maybe because I expected much from this book that it couldn't match up .. I wanted to feel sympathetic towards Vic but he was a grade A jerk .. I wouldn't want to be near someone like that Ew.. I liked that we get to see Alex again <3 .. I felt my heart flutter when I saw my favorite boy well and happy with his wife Brittany :D .. but overall this was boring

Huh...so before you decide to read my review, you must know there are many SPOILERS

When I had read Wild Cards, it was comparatively better than her other series. Sure if I re-read it now, I'd have even lower opinions to be honest, but still. I was looking forward to Vic's book and when I heard it came out, I was all,

In I went...like a naïve little shit because Yasmin, as already stated, is a silly old Llama. And while Yasmin is on the topic of talking about herself, she'll further go on to say that if the present Yasmin; who has finished the book and set it aside; would have the option of going back into time to the 3 hour-ago Yasmin just to say,
image: description

She'd go. No doubt about it. She'd go and choke the life out of 3-hour ago Yasmin, if she had to just so I (reverting back to first person), never had to go ahead and put myself through that sort of pain.

This book was horrible. I don't even know where to begin with and all that was wrong with it. HORRIBLE! HORRIBLE! HORRIBLE!

Victor's character had no depth other than being intense. His 'love (please note my sarcasm) for Monika had no depth whatsoever. We're given his POV and yet in this moment, after freshly finishing the book, I feel like I still know next to nothing about him. He's got a rich dad who's hard on him (typical) so boo-hoo cry me a fucking river. One of his sister's a stupid bitch and even being a feminist I so badly wanted her to get a lesson for being a dumb fucking bitch. Because grow the fuck up girl. You don't act like a little attention-seeking hoe going out with wrong guys just to spite your brother who is fucking looking out for you because your Daddy does not give a fuck.

Monika and Trey are all lovey-dovey in Wild Card. Here? Trey's an ass. He's condescending. Fake. An asshole. A dumbass. A cheat. A drug addict. A dumb-many things. I just never got over how this book could even go on for so long while having no plot development, except for Trey dying. No character development. Everything is still at Square 1 by the end of this book that makes me wonder.

What in the ever-loving fuck did I just read?

When Trey dies, and Monika finds out HE CHEATED ON HER?? No fucking closure at all? Think about that. How horrible it is to never vent and get the truth or closure. God I want to mourn my money and my time and so many things!!!

I KEPT asking myself,

pretty much all the way.

For me, Simone E. is not a good writer at all if she managed to write THIS after quite a while. No depth. No emotions. Stupid characters. Stupid everything to be honest. Save your money, truly. I wish I had had the same advice.

It was quite simply, top-to-toe. HORRIBLE!

The characters are so good. They have SO MUCH potential. Mainly, Jet. But honestly? I won't be reading his book because I know justice will not be done to his character. All crap to me.

I adore Ms. Elkeles's books. They are stories about struggles that young adults go through in high school. In book 2 of this series, we are back to the gang we met in Better than Perfect. Victor Salazar and his best friend Tray do everything together. Even love the same girl, not that Tray knows that. Nor does Monika. Victor has spent his life put down by his controlling father, told over and over that he is worthless and is stupid. After years of hearing this, he almost believes it all. Everything in his life is crap except when he spends his time with Tray and his friends. Monika has a secret that affects her personal life, she has told no one. She is suspicious of Tray when he starts to act strange, and when she finds out what is going on, she promises to keep his secret. That affects the story and the characters. I am sure that there will be another one coming up. I can't wait.

Another quick listen! This was more of a cutesy-ish young adult romance than this author's normal stuff. There was still quite a bit of drama, I just usually expect more violence-ish type stuff (if that makes sense). Monika and Vic drove me crazy at points. I wanted to slap them and yell "just spit it out". Of course it all played out well in the end, but still. Plus an old character pops up (even just for a little scene) :-) This is one of the YA authors that I try to read all of her works and recommend other YA readers to do that same!

A lire.
