Discover the world of hiking the Appalachian Trail through the eyes of a young man who was anything but prepared. Experienced hikers who attempt a long distance hike usually take months or years to plan and prepare. Then there's Jamie. After an abrupt end to his job, he sets out to accomplish a feat deemed impossible by most hiking over two thousand miles from Maine to Georgia on The Appalachian Trail. With little time to prepare and no prior experience, Jamie attempts the hike with sheer determination. The goal in the beginning was to survive each day. After a month of learning everything the hard way, he started to adapt. Follow his transformation into an accomplished hiker, one step at a time. An avid hiker will read this book wondering how one person could be so foolish. Those who do not hike might think he's crazy. And then there are people who are trapped in a world wishing to do something adventurous but lack the knowledge, experience, or time for it and they will feel inspired.

I Read this one in two days, although my facination with this book was two fold: 1) I have a secret desire to hike the AT, 2) I am friend with the author. Given those two truths, I couldn't stop reading this book. I shook my heads at many points disbelieving his lack of basic hiking knowledge and celebrated his grit and determination to fulfill his goal. Most impressively, he wrote a book bringing his adventure to others to experience second hand.
