My first grade teacher gave this to me in 2009 for Christmas and 16 years later while sitting in my reading chair next to my family’s bookshelf I read it again for the holiday cheer! Eddie had some great character development with support from his friends and I was happy to see that the reindeer in pajamas will get better soon:)
I loved reindeer do wear striped underwear! It was about 4 kids and they went to the zoo and they got off the bus and the teacher,Mr. Zeb said stay with your group. So then the kids went off and they found a sign that said reindeer. They followed the sign.Melodey,Leza,Howwie, and Eddie found Santa's reindeer sick. They had to do somthing you have to read the rest of this five star book and figure out if chistmas is ruind or saved.!!
This book was about four friends on a field trip to the zoo. As they come to the reindeer, they can't believe what they see when there is a reindeer in striped underwear. The kids decide that he looks sad, but then see a bearded man dressed in red come out to give him medicine and seems to disappear. Then, they discover all of the reindeer are sick and Christmas may not happen because of it. To see if that man really was Santa, Eddie decides to go to the house. When he discovers his name on the naughty list, he begins to do kind acts such as create a get well card for the reindeer. Soon after, Santa flies over and is off for Christmas.
I liked this book and thought that it was a good story for Christmas time. I think kids would get a kick out of reindeer with striped underwear too. This book could be used as a mentor text for character analysis and development: Lucy being scared, Eddie being mean, etc. It is a book more for early chapter book readers.

This is one of "The Bailey School Kids" series. The class was taking a trip to Bailey City Zoo. Eddie was the stinker in the group. His best friends were Howie, Melody, and Liza. Then there was the teacher there as well; Mr. Zep. He tells his class, "This zoo has wild animals that could eat second -graders in one bite. Stay with your partner. I don't want anyone getting lost." Of coarse Eddie thinks that getting lost is "silly". The kids decide to head toward the reindeer. But the kids see a reindeer wearing long underwear with big red stripes! The next thing that comes out of Eddie's mouth is, "Is that who I THINK it is?" Who is it that Eddie sees so unexpectedly? Why do all reindeer seem to be wearing big red striped ?
This beginner's chapter book reads more like a comic book than a chapter book, with illustrations interwoven with the sentences, which is fine with me, as I like books that try new things. But, the problem with this book is the story itself - there is not much there, and the book is more about finding Santa than the reindeer in striped pajamas (so it is a little misleading). So, better written content would have made this book much better.
The Bailey School kids are at the zoo and notice that the reindeer are wearing striped underwear. Do the reindeer belong to Santa Claus? Why are they at the zoo and not the North Pole? This book did have some laugh out loud moments for my 7 year old son. It was an okay read. Definitely lots of books that are better to read than this one.
A very cute story about 2nd graders on a field trip to the zoo near Christmas. The reindeer get sick and one boy in the class is on the naughty list. He has to figure out away to get off that list. it is a level 2.6 in AR.
This nonfiction book would be a good text example for character analysis. Each of the kids has distinct traits to use as a mentor text. It is an easy to read chapter book that will fit into a k-3 Christmas text set.
Four friends go the zoo with their class and discover that Santa Claus and his reindeer are there. However the reindeer are sick and Christmas might be in jeopardy. Our heroes must work quickly if the holiday is to be saved. Given that this is a children’s book I daresay I don’t need to tell you how it all turns out. I enjoyed this little romp. The idea that Santa and his reindeer might be staying at a local zoo is definitely one I have not come across before. As well the idea of reindeer wearing striped underwear is one that definitely produced some laughter. If you have child that is at the age where they are starting to read this type of book then this book would make an excellent stocking stuffer. Who knows, it might even keep them quiet for awhile on Christmas Day.
I read this to the kids last week one night. The kids all paid attention to the whole book, but they were exhausted. It was short and simple. I didn't really like it and will not be keeping it, but the kids enjoyed it well enough
I thought this was a really cute and interesting book that would be good to read to children or to have them read around Christmas. This would be good to have a child read if they are just getting into chapter books.
My favorite part was when all of the reindeer pulled santas sleigh at christmas. The worst part was when all of the reindeer had colds. My favorite character was all of the bailey school kids . Thre was no worst chaacter. auryn 10 years old, 2013

It's about these kids who go on a field trip to the zoo to look at all these animals and this one boy likes to scare them. I liked it because it was funny.
