Riley Kane suspects the death of her fiancé Trevor was not what it seemed. Trevor was gunned down in the line of duty or so we're led to believe. Riley, however can't come to terms with Trevor's death and feels there is more that went down that day. Riley shares her beliefs with Noah. Although he is reluctant to admit it, he begins to look into his friends death.~~~~~~~Noah Roarke has been in love with Riley since the moment she rear-ended him in the police station parking lot, but he has suppressed his feelings for his best friend's fiancée. When Riley comes looking for his help, he struggles to keep Riley at arms length, and even though Trevor is dead, he still feels guilty for wanting Riley and distances himself from her even though it hurts his heart to have to push her away.~~~~~~~Maureen Smith's sequel to "A Legal Affair" is wonderful romantic treat! Filled with emotional tension, drama, and enough lust to set the pages a blaze, it is a quick paced page-turner that will definitely delight readers. Noah brings enough sex appeal to the table for any woman, and Riley fends him off with great difficulty and made me wish I had this gorgeous private detective teaching me the fine arts of pool! Talk about a HOT and STEAMY love scene, he could teach me to play anytime/anywhere. The interaction between these two makes for a great tale and the secondary characters aided in adding more spice and interest to the tale. They stay in the background, yet lend enough plot to keep you wanting more.~~~~~~~This book brought tears to my eyes due to the unrequitted love of Noah for almost 5 years and then the guilt both Noah and Riley felt for feeling a desire they felt they had no business feeling for eachother because of Trevor being her fiancé and his best friend. And it had me LOL at some of the humorous situations and antics throughout the novel. Mrs. Smith has written yet, another tale that flows flawlessly. And I hope to read more about the Roarke family and their circle of friends. A very romantic and intriquing read!
I'm not really into romance novels too much, so I didn't really enjoy this book as much as I would've IF I preferred this genre. The sex scenes were too lovey-dovey & boring, and the storyline was sooo predictable. I figured Noah was either gay/in love with Trevor or in love with Riley because of his random animosity toward Riley. Also, there wasn't much of a twist to the book. It was obvious that Riley & Noah would find out something was wrong with Trevor, and that they would sweep their guilty feeling of "betraying" Trevor under a rug & get together by the end of the book - if not, there'd be no story lol. It definitely wasn't my type of book, which is why I would rate it about a 2.5 out 5, but if you like romance novels, I guess it wouldn't hurt to add this book to your "to read" shelf. as boring as I find the book, I still have some interest in reading the other two lol.
A sad beginning leads to a very happy ending. Its so awesome when characters don't expect something to happen, and then fate brings them together and everything falls into place. I so loved this story. It just proves that everything happens for a reason, and you can't let guilt determine the path of your life. 2 thumbs up...WTG Maureen Smith!!
Two down and one to go. I know I have said it so many times but honest!y Maureen is amazing. I love all of her work and this one was no different. I loved Riley and Noah's story. I can't wait to read the final part in this Affair series!
Another good book by Ms. Smith. I loved Noah's character. I thought it was sweet how he secretly loved his best friend's fiance' for five years. A well developed story and sweet romance.
Kept me interested from the first paragraph to the last sentence. Romantic, intriguing, and explicit. Many a novel has you interested at the beginning then falls short somewhere before it ends. But not Maureen Smith's. Extremely enjoyable front to back!
Loveeee this 2nd installment.. they had a heck of journey for them finally come together.... Sad to find out the truth about Tervor... but 2nd chances are awesome ... fate
What do these dreams mean? A woman's intuition is usually on point. Riley thought she came back to San Antonio to get Noah to help figure things out but God had a plan.
WHY DO WE ALWAYS LOVE SOMEONE FROM AFAR? SOMETIMES LIFE WORKS OUT THAT WAY. NOAH AND RILEY'S STORY WAS AWESOME JUST WHEN YOU THOUGHT LOVE WOULDN'T COME AROUND AGAIN IT DOES AND IT MIGHT BE BETTER THAN YOU EVER IMAGINED.
Interesting story with good sexual tension and heat, but the story was a bit drawn out to me. I would have liked to read more about Noah and Riley together overcoming their shared tragedy.
good read keeps you interested. however very predictable. would recommend and look forward to future reads by this author. a guilty affair was great as well.
Enjoyed this book. Didn't have much of plot, but I loved the romance. Noah was sexy, and I loved that Riley didn't take a lot of time to let him know that she loved him.
