Mace, steadfast and deeply in love, wants to protect Nikki at all costs, while Raven's loyalty to Nikki finds him advocating for her independence and battling hi ...more

The next book in the Halflings series packs a punch, that's for sure!! Now, for my gif-by-gif analysis:

I was soooooo excited to get this book in the mail. I love Heather Burch's writing voice and I started reading Guardian the minute I got it.

Thing is, I got annoyed when I started it. The book had enough action to keep me reading, but it was mainly all about the love triangle between Mace, Nikki and Raven. I don't mind romance, but I did get a bit irritated with Nikki after awhile. She was selfish and a bit ...dumb.

She got herself into dangerous situations and the boys had to rescue her. She cri

*NOTE: This is my friend, Jess's, review as she is helping me with my huge review TBR Pile.*

This sequel to the angel series Halflings was out of this world. I loved the world building, and all the characters. It did start out a little slower than I had anticipated but by 15% in I was hooked. This one picks up where book one leaves off and it doesn’t disappoint at all. The love triangle from book one is still going on in this one but by the end the characters pretty much know what needs to happen

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher, who provided me with an ARC for review purposes.

I did not realize when i requested this book that it was one in a series. Based on the high ratings I thought I'd enjoy the series, so I bought the first book in order to read this one in context. Somehow I managed to finish both. (I may've skimmed some scenes...)

So why didn't I love this book? First, the plot was a little shaky in my opinion. I was not drawn in enough by what was happening - I felt like the

This review is for those who have read or are familiar with the previous book, Halflings, or don't mind knowing some major spoilers for it. Guardian, however, will remain spoiler-free.

If Halflings had me torn, Guardian has me ripped apart. And not in a good way. Sure, Halflings disappointed me in some respects, but it at least still had enough to make me hope for improvements. Guardian managed to nothing but infuriate me chapter after chapter. But let me start

What I Loved

The suspense. The edge-of-your-seat quality. The fact that I couldn't let go of this book. It followed me to the breakfast table, to bedtime, to the cab of my truck where I read it before class.

Building on the magnetism of the first book, Burch has fully delivered with Guardian. Nicki is back in all her intense glory. Mace is more conflicted than ever. And Raven is taking his bad boy routine to a whole new level. You know how sometimes there comes a certain point in a novel where it

Wow, let me start off saying this book is full of suspense and revelations that we get to discover. I do not want to spoil anything for anyone, so this review will not be as in depth as most are.
I will say, I still love Mace and Raven, and had a hard time with Nikki at times, but these times there seems to be a good reason that she acts the way she does

What I Loved: To be honest, I wasn't really that overly crazy about Guardian, but The last 4 chapters of Guardian were awesome and fully redeemed the series for me. But...I can't tell you what *AWESOME BIG THINGS* happen in the last couple of chapters because they contained HUGE SPOILERS. Also, the writing was just as great as always, despite the plot seemingly being m.i.a.

What I Didn't Like So Much: Guardian started out extremely slow, for me. I mean, it literally took me 5 chapters in before I

Title: Guardian (Halflings #02)
Author: Heather Burch
Rating: 3/5

Thanks to Zondervan via Netgallery for accepting my request on reading this book.

Nikki's in danger. Everyone she loves is in danger because of her. Now she's on a mission with two boys who own her hearts. Torn between them and the tasks she is facing, Nikki has to make the right choices.

In the second book of the Halflings series Guardian everything felt a little too forced for me.

Guardian is the second installment of the Halflings series. I found that out when I received this ARC, so obviously, I had to read Halflings and thankfully, I liked it. But I liked this one better!

Guardian is action-packed. A lot happens to Nikki who doesn't know who to turn to anymore. She tries to improve herself and work on her abilities but Mace is overprotective and Raven is always in her face. She's in love with one and she's attracted and attached to the other. So, of course, it complicat

Heather Burch’s Guardian, part two of the Halflings series, and deepens the developing plot with its classic love-triangle and startling twists. Although Nikki Youngblood would rather want everything to return to the way it was, she is in too deep and there is really no going back. She knows that her feelings for Raven and Mace could cost them their eternity, she cannot help her emotions from getting stronger towards them. She needs protection which Mace can provide, but she craves freedom that ...more

Nikki Youngblood just wants things to go back to the way they were before. Before her life spun out of her control. Before she was haunted by hell hounds. Before her parents were murdered. Before she heard of Halflings. Before she fell for not one but two of them…
Nikki can’t help but fall deeper in love with each of them even though she knows it could cost them their eternity.
Mace is safe and dedicated. Protecting her against the evil that threatens her. Mace is what Nikki needs.

Even though this one got off to a rough start for me (I felt it didn't start in the heart of the action enough), by about 20% through on my Kindle I couldn't put it down! There were so many twists, so many sweet moments between her and Mace (and between her and Raven as well). I won't tell you who she ends up with. I love them both, but I was a little disappointed with who she picked. I switched teams between book 1 & 2 though, and I may switch again in book 3 (maybe Nikki will too)! Anyway, ...more

When I read Halflings, I thought the illogical jumps in the time/space continuum were me being scatter brained or a bad copy of the book. Well, what are the chances of the same issues occurring in Guardian, apparently quite high, or else this is the worst case of writing/editing I've EVER seen? I refuse to read anymore in this series. The Twilightesque love triangle is so overplayed I lack the words to properly describe it. Quite frankly, the whole story wreaks of a Twilight rip-off with "angels ...more

I was just notified yesterday that I won this book in a First Reads Giveaway. I will read and review the first book as well. I will simply both reviews up at the same time.

Update 10/17 : I have received this book and I have two other ARCs to read before this one. However, I don't see it taking longer than a week at most to get it all done.

Update 10/31 : Finally, finished. I'll put up the review soon but it's not going to be pleasant or nice. I really didn't not like the book at all.

I loved reading it all over again! I got to go back and see how my perspective had changed since the last time I had read it, which was a little over two years ago. And happy to say it was just as good as it was then, maybe better cause now I could really take in part's that I hadn't really grasped last time. Does that make any sense?

I was disappointed. Why do the second installments always or mostly always fail to bring you the same joy as first installments? Either way the novel could of been a lot better. I'm tired of Nikki being torn between Mace and Raven. It's obvious that she needs Raven and Mace is holding her back. I hope the third installment is better.

I enjoy the intrigue of the happenings in this book however I am not too sure I actually like the main character. She does a lot of flip flopping of attitude and people. I have very mixed feelings about this book. I did like how it didn’t let on exactly who they were up against until later in the book. I’m hoping the third will wrap up nicely and hopefully the main character will make a decision on who she wants to be.

I remember reading the first novel in author Heather Burch’s Halflings series about a year ago and I remember two things: 1) The war between angels and demons begun 2) There was a love triangle. It’s a good thing I remembered the love triangle because it’s the main focus of the sequel Guardian. I can’t complain, when it came to Halflings I had been eagerly anticipating the explosion of romance that usually comes from love triangles… and only got a taste. In Guardian there is romance galore and I ...more

The fact that I enjoy the Halflings series by Heather Burch remains an utter surprise to me. They are so much not my thing that I keep expecting to be annoyed beyond repair on every page. I say this to emphasize that, while my rating is certainly on the low end of liking the book, it's a miracle that I liked it at all. If you enjoy paranormal romance and Christian themes more than I do, then you should most definitely check out Heather Burch's Halflings books.

*Spoiler alert! Don't read this if you haven't read Halflings, the first book in this series*

While I didn't totally enjoy Guardian, I do think it was better than the first book in this series, Halflings. I didn't like the insta-love and obvious bad guy in Halflings. Guardian feels like a more developed book. I do have to say, Guardian is definitely more character-driven than plot-driven. For me, this was good, because I always prefer characters over anything else in a book. But the plot

Thanks to Goodreads First Reads and the Z Street Team for an ARC of Guardian Halflings 2.

Guardian is the second book in the Halflings series by Heather Burch. I did not read the first book in the series, but the author gave enough back-story in the beginning of this book that I got caught up to speed pretty quickly. This book focuses on Nikki, a Seer, after her parents are murdered and she kills a hellhound from the previous book in the series. Mace and Raven are her love interests, both Halflin

I can't believe the release of SOMETHING LIKE FAMILY is September 12. This is a book that was inspired by a trip to the mountains when my husband and I needed to "unplug" for a while.
I wasn't certain how it would hit readers, but I'm thrilled to say, it has the highest star rating so far of all of my books. It's sitting at a 4.85 stars here on Goodreads. I guess needing to "unplug" is something
