After the killer cliffhanger we were left with at the end of book 1, I was excited to get back into the creepy life of Riley Williams. Laria is back, or well, she never left, and she has friends now; friends who are just as evil as she is.

What I enjoyed the most from The Deepest Cut was how awfully creepy it was. In The Haunted we've still got plenty of evil ghosts and spine chilling moments, but we've also got quite a bit more character development and romance in the mix. I was particularly hap

I love the MacKinnon Curse series by J.A. Templeton. Templeton, in her first book The Deepest Cut, had my heart pleading for Riley and Ian’s love that could never be, and left me with a broken heart. But with The Haunted, Templeton pieces it back together, but not without tears and eerie chills. Riley is an awesome character. She has faced so much heart break and pain in her sixteen years, but she’s not a quitter. I love that about Riley—her strong-will to keep fighting for her family and the lo ...more

I haven't had this much fun reading a ghost story since the The Mediator series by Cabot!
J.A. Templeton writes an addicting sequel. It's exciting and intriguing and creepy as hell. Loved it!!

FINALLY! I get to sate my mind on what has happened to Riley Williams!! Well not finally, it hasn’t been that long since I’ve read the first book. I’m just being really dramatic....

If I was playing the game “Never Have I Ever” and someone said “Never Have I Ever... read a great ghost novel.”- After this book, I’d have to take a shot of whatever was being served.....

I don’t even LIKE stories that have ghost in them.
I hated Tales from the Crypt, and stuck up my nose to the Goosebumps series as

What am I supposed to do now? I started The Deepest Cut, and found myself in love. While I was aware of some minor glitches in the first novel; this second book showed none of the same obstacles. Where book one was an instant attraction and an impossible relationship; book two is budding relationship that grows and develops. The Haunting starts from where book one leaves off at full speed. Upon the return of the cousins, Riley finds herself instantly drawn to Kade MacKinnon; but is it solely du ...more

Oh, good god, my heart is racing/crushed/swelling/skipping beats/flatlining...this series is AWESOME!! Picture Paranormal Activity meets Abbi Glines' Existence, and you have this haunting romance. I don't know how I haven't heard more about this series until now, I but will be highly recommending it to everyone!!

Haunted begins right where Deepest Cut ends, with Riley in the very beginning stages of getting to know Kade, the lookalike descendant of her sexy ghost boyfriend Ian (view spoiler)

Yet again, J.A Templeton managed to have my jumping at every creaking floorboard in my house. There are a lot of floorboards too and it is an old house so there is a lot of creaking. I don't know what it is about this series of books but the author just pulls out 'creepy' in an amazingly talented fashion.

The ghosts are definitely well portrayed. They aren't your typical shaking chains and howling sort of ghosts, though they do tend to pull their share of trickery and haunting! Peter, an eleven

I was so excited when I saw that the second book in the MacKinnon Curse series was out. I absolutely loved the first book and couldn't wait to start the second one. I missed reading about Riley and Ian and even creepy Laria and then of course there was Kade, who I really wanted to get to know better, especially with Ian gone.

Templeton did not disappoint with this sequel. It was amazing and if possible, was even better than the first book.

Not only did we get to know Kade (who I absolutely LOVE by

J.A Templeton WOWED me again! This book is oozing unmeasurable amounts of awesomenimity. After reading The Deepest Cut, I was literally aching for The Haunted. The story became much more interesting. I love how the story flows, it begins where The Deepest Cut ended. Ian had crossed over and Laria is back!! She is haunting Riley more than ever. The scenes the author had made between Riley and Laria was very cinematic. I imagined

This book was sooo creepy!! I loved it!! I think my only complaint was that it seemed so short, either that or I read it too fast. :) I loved that we were able to meet some new characters in this installment, even if they weren't in it a lot. I liked Madison and Hanway from the little they were in the story. I had really hoped to get to learn a bit more about Madison's past and why she can see spirits as well. Maybe thats for another book? I also hoped for just a tiny bit of information as to ho ...more

I LOVED Book 2! I cannot wait for Book 3! The book flows so effortlessly that by the time I was reaching the end I wanted to throw a toddler's tantrum for it not to be over yet. Even though Kade and Ian seem to be one in the same I love how Riley and he seem to form their own separate bond. And even though Laria and her backup goons are back with a vengeance, Riley is surrounded by so much love and support from those around her that she fights back with all she has much to the evil doer's dismay ...more

I CANNOT wait until the next book!!!! this is simply too good not to be on pins and needles until the next one. I simply love Ms. Templeton's writing style and how she can put so much angst into this book. It is refreshing to see a love story that not only has romance but real depth instead of the normal frilly romance in most YA books. I also find it refreshing to read something other than another vampire or werewolf book (not that I don't love them :)). Thank you for making something so great, ...more

This book was wonderful! The second book in the series, it had even more suspense than the first one. The characters are ones you grow to care about and boy, what a page turner! I screamed when I got to the last page and realized the next book doesn't come out until spring. It will be worth the wait!

WOW! I love this one too... wow. Definately more than 5*'s.
Usually I go with the sample, but knowing how much I liked the first one, I just bought this one straight out.

I am not at all disappointed by the story. Love the characters and the story. Impatiently waiting for the 3rd one. :)

Another home run! Full of suspense. I'm glad that Riley isn't the typical goodie goodie who won't give in to her teenage hormones. C'mon, Kade is total swoon worthy! Book 3 needs to hurry on up

Major let down from the first. The writing was horrible, more instalove, more badly created "scary" scenes. I ended up skimming at 55% and on. Will not be finishing the series.

THE HAUNTED takes off immediately where book one in the MacKinnon Curse series, THE DEEPEST CUT left off. Thank goodness because I didn't want to miss one single second of what happened after Riley got her first glimpse of Kade, who looks exactly like his ancestor, Ian, a former ghost. And I have to stop right here and say, I miss Ian so, so much! I mean, I was a little hesitant to read this book because I was afraid that no one could compare to Ian with his flowing white shirt and his charming ...more

What the..? How.. Why... Huh?

There was so much wrong with this. So much.

First off, Kade.

WHY?! Can we not have a YA story without a love story? I mean she fell in love with Ian the ghostboy, not shes all gaga over his great great great great great grandson? (I can't remember exactly what there relations are, but it's something like that I think.)

You find out pretty early on that Kade is Ian reincarnated... WHAT?! Did you google that one too Riley?

Also, Riley can read minds, because google/books s

I would probably actually give this book 4.5/5.

The Haunted picks up where The Deepest Cut ends. I'm not going to say much about The Haunted because I don't want to give any spoilers for anyone who hasn't yet read The Deepest Cut. Riley has just met Kade MacKinnon, who was away for vacation over the summer when Riley first moved to Scotland. Kade is Ian's descendent, and the resemblance to Ian is striking. Riley feels as if she already knows Kade, and she easily falls for him. However, she doesn

I just love the characters in this series. Riley is such a real teenager. Her emotions and deeply felt pain and grief, and how she copes, is similar to many of the kiddos I have dealt with as a child psychologist. I love books about gho

This book was better than the last and it definitely got creepier. I liked Riley a little more this time around because she's trying so much harder this time. Her brother Shane was a little more prominent in this book and I really liked him. He was protective and concerned about Riley which was really sweet. It was nice that he was more than just a pothead.
I thought Kade was swoon worthy but things between them moved a little too quickly at the lake.
I'm glad Riley had good friends around her. I

I think my problem with this book (second in a series) might have been the tortured romance plot. Like, at the end of book one, our heroine's ghost lover has crossed over into the beyond. Do we really need her to meet his descendent (who looks just like him) practically the next day? She conflates the two and barely grieves for the loss of her first love. It's seriously off-putting.

The best characters in this one are the interesting side-characters. Hanway is great, and I hope he gets more scree

These characters are so real and bring out such emotion that it was hard to put this book down. The dark romance and danger keep building and bring with it more exciting twists and turns in this book.

Riley, again, is alone. Now that Ian has moved on, she thinks the curse is gone too. Then, the MacKinnon family moves back into their mansion, and she realizes the boy could be Ian's twin. Not to mention the curse isn't gone, she is still being haunted.

My Thoughts: So, this book was AMAZING! I would read the first book to get to this one any day. I loved how real J.A. Templeton's writings were, I was seriously freaked out some nights reading this. It was so different to really experience it on

I liked this a lot more than the first. I don't really know how to critique it though... It wasn't amazing or anything, but I had a lot of fun reading it, mostly because of the relationships with boyfriends, friends, brother, and parents. It's possibly the most realistic I've read in a long time. I hope Riley learns to stand up to her father and works things out with Kade, cos he's hot. BTW, this is my crappest review ever, probably cos I have the flu.

Easily as fantastic as the first - my only complaints are that it was too short (left me wanting more) and I have to wait for Spring 2012 to get the next installment!
A great young adult series - but definitely for "older" young adults, as this book starts to deal with sexual situations, etc.
The spin on seeing ghosts and cutting brings some unique aspects to this series that make it stand out from others in the genre. :)
What can I say? I want more of that Kade MacKinnon *rawr*!
