William Champion, known as Willie, was born with a silver spoon in his mouth. He had the best of everything and a bright future lay ahead of him. He escapes death’s hands at a young age, only to get caught up with life. Young, naive and inexperienced, Willie gets turned out by the excitement of the hood. The lure of a lifestyle filled with drugs, hookers and sex continuously consumes him. Lies and betrayal is his norm. Can he change before he loses his picture perfect life or is it too late? Remember, this is just the beginning . . .
It was a good read. You can tell this was one of the first books he started out with. It's a good story line and unlike many of stories of men/women who falls under drugs, it showed that you don't have to be a hundred percent under the influence of your addiction, but it showed that the addiction is strong enough to stay with you. Also, i liked the fact that it showed how much someone would try to quit cold turkey and how easy it is to fall under the same pattern, especially when you try to keep it a secret from the world. What i did not like was the story line was almost of a cliche. I'm not going to tell you how because i do not want to spoil the book for others but it is a little bit of a cliche. But the fact that he goes in dept with his addictions, (yes, there is more than one)showed that it was a good read and a good journey for the narrator. Also, some of the scene he left to imagination. But then again, i am not too surprise about that because that is usually how some writers operate. Me, i would like a vivid showing of everybody and everything the writer describes in the book. Definitely a good read, and i am looking forward to reading the sequel.
Once again another book that has been sitting on my kindle that I am glad I finally got the chance to read. I am have read numerous books by this author and he is most definitely a great storyteller. This book takes you through the motions of someone who is considered a "functional " junky.. It was crazy to see how the main character allowed his craving for drugs make him do things that he had no business doing. The entire time I felt for his wife and now I'm eager to see just how many chances he's going to get before he reaches his bottom. This story will keep you turning the pages for more and it ends at 69%
The book, Chronicles of a Junky (The Beginning) by Sa'id Salaam, focus on main character William Champion, Jr; an upper class all American youth, his introduction to drug use, lifestyle as a functional addict and the successful facade he displays. The story is well written, developed and reality. This is an excellent read!! Kudos for Author Sa'id Salaam! Five stars all the way!
Great insight given into the circumstances involving Willie Champion--a man who had the potential to be a celebrated part of society..Sa'id has once again taken us through what happens when things go terribly wrong as he introduced the life of Willie... Another diabolical beginning to a well written short series that had me hooked in no time at all!
I really don't know how to review this one here by a favorite author of mines, Sa'id Salaam. I was curious about what would make a person became hooked on drugs. My parents were and could never understand why. Now I know and I'm pleased to say this was a good read. I loved the books about Killa so this was different!!!
