I can't remember how I first heard about adventure racing, but like any hobby, I bought a book on it before jumping into it. All this book did was make me want to jump in sooner. Fascinating, and inspiring. Finally I did a race with my great friend Guy, and we had a blast and still tell stories about it to this day. Incidentally, I was attending an aerospace medicine class in San Antonio several years ago and a guy in the class saw me reading this during the breaks. He casually mentioned that he knew the authors and showed me a picture of him in the book. So I had him autograph the picture like it was a yearbook. He was kind of bashful about it. Later, we were in the same wilderness survival group, and I was able to size him up against me. Ask me about it some time...
