Texas Off the Beaten Path features the things travelers and locals want to see and experience––if only they knew about them. From the best in local dining to quirky cultural tidbits to hidden attractions, unique finds, and unusual locales, Texas Off the Beaten Path takes the reader down the road less traveled and reveals a side of Texas that other guidebooks just don't offer.
Having been born and raised in Texas, I have taken dozens of road trips off the 'beaten path', and this book reveals more the popular well known attractions, rather than the less commonly known jewels this big state has to offer. It reads more like a narrative version of a AAA state guide, missing many of the gems I have found over my lifetime that are truly 'off the beaten path'. Rodriquez ended up being 'off the mark' with this guide.
I expected from the title for this book to provide information about places to visit that are not well known. Everything in the book is pretty much common in any tour guide book of Texas, so I am not sure how this off the beaten path or unique.
Fairly well written but didn't capture much of the off-beaten paths as I was expecting. Descriptive language started strong, but I grew oh so weary of everything described as "bucolic." You can sometimes see the author's biases to the quaint and cutesy, e.g. strong description for kitschy country furniture in hotels, but weak in other areas and descriptions - bit like she was running out of steam in some places and struggling to find other words besides "bucolic."
I'd say it's a good read as a complimentary addition to another travel book; particularly if you are looking for very specific regions to travel. May not be obvious with this review, but really it wasn't a bad read.
I love this Book because it is VERY Informative. It goes in very in depth into Places that People would normally pass up. I love this kind of stuff It tells a Little bit of every town that You might drive through when ever you go travailing. If you like Travailing a learning while you are driving, than this is your book.
I think the cover and chapter photos are clipart. Nonetheless, we plan trips with this book and we haul this book around with us when we take road trips.
