Good grief, I will never look at this book, or it's author, the same way again. Just when I thought this was too deep for me, I realized that no matter how much I learn from this lesson I will always be able to return to the book of James and learn more. And, that is a blessing! James writing is so practical in it's approach to handling life situations and uses the Old Testament to backup the teaching of his half-brother, Jesus.

Beth Moore uses a new format for this study. Five levels: Level one

This study was life-changing and amazing. Truly asks the question "What good is it?" when looking at our faith in Jesus Christ. What good is the deeds we do, the songs we sing, the life we lead if our faith has no real meaningful relationship with our one true Savior. James is a book I could read over & over and still leave changed, with this Bible study it explored further into the history of James and connected the relevance of words, verses and concepts in James to the points throughout t ...more

Ladies Bible Study -

Beth Moore studies never disappoint.

I have to confess that I have started a couple but this is one that I make a commitment that would see it to the end. I missed one session but was able to catch in on the internet.

You can do the study alone but I recommend the group setting.

After the study, I can't hear a verse from James without remembering this study. I would not have every read this way without this study. Many hidden secrets in Beth's teaching.

Excellent Bible study. I have learned so much about the book James as well as who James was. It was well done. Beth Moore did a fantastic job.

***SECOND REVIEW, MAY 22, 2016***

I was blessed enough to go through this study twice, in two very different times in my life, which gave me different perspective. The first time was during the most painful experience of my life to date, when the themes of seeing joys within suffering and seeking God above all else spoke the most to me. This time, I got the opportunity to do it while in the best time of my life thus far, having walked through the painful season and looking back on the very benefi

This was a fascinating study of the book of James. Beth Moore incorporates a wonderful balance of historical research (along with her daughter's help), an evaluation of the meanings of words in both Greek and Hebrew, and application to current life. I also love how she ties the Old and New Testament together so the student sees how each is connected to the other...the OT is not a dusty collection of books to be left behind. James is faith in action - enter with care and great joy.

l am always amazed at the insight I gain from doing a Beth Moore Bible study....I do it at a much slower pace and download the videos myself...I find I am able to "digest" it and think about it more...I loved the different levels of intensity she offers with this study and including her daughter in this study. I will never look at James the same again...imagine being the half-brother of Jesus...

only docked it a star because the last week of homework was a bit of a downer after such great content previously. I really enjoyed this study, James has so much truth to apply to my life! help me, Holy Spirit, do just that!

I love Beth Moore's studies. She sheds light on background information while also challenging her readers to dig deeper into the Word. Whether you choose to simply follow along or hand-write and memorize the book of James along the way, you're sure to grow through this time with James.

This is a thorough, academic journey through the book of James. Beth backs up her interpretations of the bible with historical information and direct translation. She makes the scripture come alive through her depiction of James, the brother of Jesus, and his journey of becoming a believer.

A lot of typos. Some sections were hard to follow if you didn't have her exact translation. I dislike studies that lean heavily on building lessons on the importance of one English word. Every lesson was not like that, so I still liked the book.

Another awesome bible study with Beth Moore; the sister is gifted! This study is about the half-brother of Jesus. After eight weeks spent with James I am sad to see it end. It's been a great ride!

Another great Bible study from Beth Moore! The first and last chapters are a little dull compared to the middle chapters, but necessary to lay the foundation for James' life before and after he wrote the book. There are 5 levels of participation: simply watching the videos, completing the workbook, handwriting the book of James, reading extra articles, and memorizing the book of James. Personally, I did not watch the videos. I only completed the homework and read the extra articles and the study ...more

In short, fantastic study. This helped me learn to apply the Word to life.
However, having gained more theological learning about James, he was NOT a half brother to Jesus. Chase down a little information on this. John was given the job of caring for Mary after Jesus was put on the cross and Jesus had no siblings, only those all that he considered brothers and sisters, but no blood relation other than Mary. Love Beth Moore but I have studied further to find out this point was wrong in Her study.

This study is powerful and amazing. Strongly taught, researched and written. I've done two other Beth Moore Bible studies (Esther, and Paul) and they were both very good. However this one is knock-your-socks off. (This review should apply to the whole package -- the homework book, along with the video sessions and small group discussion that takes place weekly.)

Last August we started a bible study on James one of the books of the bible. Beth Moore is the author of this study. For this study her daughter Melissa helped write the study. For those of you who know Beth Moore, you know what to expect in one of her studies. For those of you who don’t you are in for a treat.
The structure of this study is eight weeks of homework where you learn all kinds of facts about James. These homework sessions are followed by video sessions with Beth emphasizing on a set

Beth Moore offers incredible insight into what is arguably the most forthright and perhaps even controversial book of the Bible. In order to understand the meaning of James, you must know who he was and how his ministry developed. This book and the accompanying video series do a fantastic job of explaining his background.

LOVE Beth Moore But This Was My Least Favorite Beth Moore Study

I love Beth Moore and have completed a few of her past studies: Esther, Breaking Free, David, Daniel. There are several different participation levels for this study to choose from: 1. Just watch DVD, 2. Watch DVD and do workbook, 3. In addition to the previous you can also handwrite the whole book of James, 4. Do all the previous plus read all of Melissa's (Beth's daughter) commentaries 5. Do all of the previous plus memorize the en

James Mercy Triumphs by Beth Moore is such a great in-depth Bible study on the book of James that I was sorry to see it end. Beth’s older daughter, Melissa, also had some interesting articles included from an historical standpoint based on research she did. I learned so much more about James, the author of this book, than I had known before and accepted Beth’s challenge to memorize the entire book of James, which I am in the process of still doing, having memorized the first two of the five chap ...more

This was my first Bible study ever. So it was obviously my first Beth Moore study. I didn't know what to expect going in, but it was life changing for me. I haven't read this much of the Bible or delved this deeply into subject matter ever before. I liked that Beth Moore was relatable and funny at times. I like that she didn't act holier than thou and admitted the areas she needs to work on too. I liked the videos that accompanied it, and I would say they made the study that much better. JAMES: MERCY TRIUMPHS is one of the better bible study/small group curriculum in recent memory. The author, BETH MOORE, is a treasure of knowledge, inspiration, and has the ability to make scripture and bible history relate to her readers lives.

The books structure is rather simple-one lesson per study or group session. The style is easy to understand and written in such a way that anyone reading the book does not have to be scripture knowledgeable before beginning the study. Moore explains it we

This was a wretched study and I pray no one takes it but I know people will anyways. In the first sessions homework you will find that the NIV translation contradicts itself

2nd if you use t

This was my first Beth Moore study. I love her energy and enthusiasm. She's got a sparky attitude that shines through in the writing and the video. Periodically, there's a more intensive look at some aspect of the week's work via a short commentary from her daughter, Melissa. These gave some interesting context and background.

This was also my first intensive study of one book of the Bible. (All the other studies I've done have been on a theme and jumped around the Bible.) It was rewarding to loo

My knowledge and understanding of (and yes! love for) James, the half-brother of Jesus has increased tremendously through this study. Perhaps it was not a coincidence that I had no sooner begun this study when I was taken with excruciating back spasms and then, in the last week of the study, I again came down with another bout of even worse back spasms. I know that whenever I read James, I will remember, and I know that whenever my faith is tested, I will recognize the opportunity for my enduran ...more

Well, we are headed into our last week of this study and as with all of the Beth Moore studies that I have done in the past, this one was just as amazing. This study was set up a little differently, with 4 or 5 different ways that you could do the homework for the study. I chose to do all the homework plus write out the Book of James in the back of the workbook. I loved it! When you write something out, you have to slow down (at least I do) and actually absorb the words that you are writing out. ...more

A gigantic workbook which is challenging to balance with the Bible you reference. The paper is cheap and the print is light - translation, I paid WAY too much for this workbook. Some weeks of the lesson are interesting and thought provoking, and some weeks are brutally dry. She hypes up her daughters contribution as being a part of the "next level" you go to in doing this study. I cannot see how that is so, as her daughter is simply regurgitating information she has learned as a scholar. Also, s ...more

Phenomenal. This study has changed my life. I wish I hadn't waited so long to do a Beth Moore! But, truly; I am totally into James. I resonate with him far better than with the Apostle Paul (although I don't think they are as far apart in their theology as has been the issue for centuries).

I chose to do all five levels of the study; a challenge, to be sure but I haven't found it burdensome in the least.

And, with memorizing the Book of James (yes, MEMORIZING THE ENTIRE BOOK OF JAMES), I'll have h
