Rating is closer to a 4.5/4.75 - a fascinating read. I have a little bit of background in the history of contraception, having written on the contraceptive devices between the 1890s until just before WWI. In that research (quite understandably) I did not come across the IUD, so I had been looking forward to getting round to reading this for a while! Takeshita presents here a wonderful combination of narrative history, contemporary critique, and the (de)constructive ability of discourse/language. ...more
