Inside Insider's Guide to Horse Racing provides essential information on what to wear, how to bet, how to watch a race, who the participants are, and where to see the best racing.
It's... fine. This book reads like the fulfillment of a contractual obligation. There's some good introductory information about horse racing, betting, etc. but it's padded out with things like an entire chapter on how to dress that can be summarized as "be comfortable, dress for the weather, if in doubt... ask." Thanks?
And if you're hoping you might get some gossipy stories about big personalities, instead we get (and I'm quoting from the text, "There are just too many interesting owners and stories to tell to get into them here." Why, are you being chased? If you don't get in to them here, then where? Can we at least have one? No?
Okay then. I bet on this horse and lost. It's fine.
Donna knows her stuff as she lets you inside the world of horse racing. She is the woman you see riding beside each Derby, Preakness and Belmont winner so she is the envy of many young women's dreams to one day be riding on the track beside a champion capturing the interview, all while on horseback! Her book gives you insight on just what a historian of the sport and inside she is.
I have purchase 20 of her books over time and given them to my friends who wanted to learn more about the sport.
