Whether you consider yourself a real cowpoke or a western romantic, you are going to enjoy this batch of new cowboy poems. Reading them aloud, it's easy to get caught up in the spirit of the West. You can almost hear the creak of saddle leather, smell the aroma of chuck wagon coffee, and feel the glow of a mellow campfire beneath a starry desert sky. Here is a first-rate sampling of the best cowboy poetry being written today. The poets in this collection hail from all over the West--California, Montana, Texas and everywhere in between. Some of them have been seen on the "Tonight Show" with Johnny Carson, and all have recited their works at the granddaddy of the gatherings, the annual Cowboy Poetry Gathering in Elko, Nevada.
My son needed to read some poetry in his sixth grade class and this book was a blast to read together! There were a few poems that brought us to tears or made us laugh aloud! Of course some of them went right over our heads as well! 🧐😝🥸
My grandfather was a true cowboy and this was an heirloom book passed down to me! It was nostalgic to be able to read it and know that we are related to one of the best ‘ol Cowboys in the west!
I read these poems aloud to my 88-year old father who likes Robert W. Service. Same style. Some funny, some moving. Good stuff. Don't listen to snooty academics who call Service, Cowboy Poets and anything that rhymes doggerel. There's room for everything. Poems with words are inherently good.
