I was hoping for a book that would give an overview of fictional worlds from a "world-building" perspective. Instead, I got something more... German. Silly me, I should have known that the "Atlas" would be light on an entertaining geographical breakdown, but rather use the concept of fictional locales as an entry point into a discussion of the literary, historiographical, philosophical, psychological, and - sometimes - socioeconomic theory of the origins and implications of the source material.

"Der Atlas der fiktiven Orte" führt den Leser genau zu diesen, z.B. Atlantis, Mittelerde, die Sonneninsel, Lummerland, Schlaraffenland, Xanadu oder den Zauberberg. Eine grundsätzlich schöne Idee (die Landkarten fand ich nett), muss aber sagen, dass ich die "Fakten" zu den fiktiven Orten mangels Kenntnis bzw. weil ich entsprechende Stellen vergessen habe, nicht bewerten kann. ;) ...more
