I have had this one on my tbr for a while now and when I saw that it had an audible companion, I snatched up the audio. It was the first time I used the Whispersync function, switching back and forth from reading to listening. It worked surprisingly well and I kind of dug it.

Laura Lee Bahr pens a weird one here. Shifting narrative perspectives, timelines and story threads - this should have been a total mess. It wasn’t. From the lead character “You” to a ghost, to an investigative reporter in lo

Haunt is a novel that twists both the conventions of narrative and time into a colorful and kaleidoscopic knot. It is a mystery that begs to be unraveled: a ghost story and a crime noir and a dark romantic comedy, all rolled into one. The prose here is relaxed, yet razor-sharp. The story is engaging, even at the breakneck speed it is told, beckoning you like a spirit itself to travel further into the maze - even when you are aware that each hallway you are about to enter is full of booby traps. ...more

3 estrellas, 4, 3, 4 y así es el libro que más difícil me resulta puntuar. Fantasma ofrece muchas cosas buenas;

Smart, Exciting, Totally Unique Ghost Story

This book is smart in a way that is sort of baffling - not because I don't get it, but because I totally do. There's no pretension. It's super readable. It's smartness isn't in the use of big words. It's not trying to be experimental for the sake of experimentation. Yet it does experiment. It breaks new ground and messes with perspective and chronology in a way that doesn't take away from the fact that it's a page turner of a ghost story at its core. I'

Interesting chronology-hopping alternate-reality switching bizarro crime-drama ghost-story romance. The convoluted structure made things a little hard to follow along with at times, though the prose was lyrical and melodic throughout.

When I find such a unique novel as this I feel the obligation of telling everybody. Haunt is the winner of last year's Wonderland award, kind of a literary equivalent of 'Mullholand Drive', with a touch of Werner Herzog's 'My son, my son, what have ye done'. It tells the story of three characters: a beautiful dead woman (or not), a detective/journalist who loves her and wants to find out what happened, and you. Yes, you. The one who's reading. In this story your name is Dick and you live in L.A; ...more

You Don't Know What This Book Is.

You don't know why you bought this book. (I met Laura Lee Bahr, but you didn't, so why did you buy it? It's a mystery.)

You start reading this book. You don't know what it is. But you can't put it down. It's like being led by the nose. It's like being in love. You keep reading in hopes you can figure it out.

But then you give up trying to figure it out, because there is no way to figure out magic, and you just enjoy the ride, enjoy being led by the nose. The book

HAUNT fits into my favorite category of art: It's unlike anything I've ever read before. Not just the story itself, but the way it's told is so unique. Some of it is in third person, some in second person ("You" are one of the characters) and the narrator has such an original voice.

The only thing I can compare it to is: If Kurt Vonnegut adapted a David Lynch movie. So if you dig Lynch or Vonnegut or any artist who takes risks, definitely read this.

The narrative is non-linear, but the theme of de

¿He estado tentado de dejarlo?

Easily one of the more innovative and entertaining audiobooks I've listened to. The production team makes use of multiple actors, sound effects and music to enhance the listening experience. And the story is bonkers in the best kind of way.

Earlier this month I started a wonderful novel by Laura Lee Bahr titled Haunt published by Fungasm Press. Think The Others meet The Sixth Sense, but these comparisions are too simple. They don’t do this book justice.

This isn’t your run-of-the-mill “I’m a ghost but I don’t know I’m a ghost story.” It’s so much deeper than that. Seriously, Bahr’s rhythmic prose and deep characterization gave me nightmares (the good kind).

“You” work at an office job with a girl who you doesn’t realize is dead and h

Reading this book is a big long dive into a dark abyss. You'd better be ready for it. Because "Haunt" is a mindbender. It's a weird whirlwind that your sanity might not survive. It's a ghost/noir story set in L.A., following the destinies of three characters (two living and one dead) as they circle one another likes sharks, waiting for some gruesome end that's bound to come from wherever you're not looking.

Like any good murder mystery, there are twists and turns, but there's also stretching. Onc

Somewhere between poetry, CYOA, and ghost story, this novel is a scrappy, badass mutt of genre fiction. While its plot is purposefully ephemeral, converging on or departing from multiple storylines at once, it never let's go of the reader. Finishing most chapters is like waking up from a profound dream. Bahr takes you down elaborate pathways, allowing glimpses of the characters as they might be, as they could or should be, then rips you away to some other tragedy, some new development.
