It is not uncommon for white suburban youths to perform rap music, for New York fashion designers to ransack the world's closets for inspiration, or for Euro-American authors to adopt the voice of a geisha or shaman. But who really owns these art forms? Is it the community in which they were originally generated, or the culture that has absorbed them?

"Cultural appropriation" is a hot topic these days, a great example of how frustrating debate in the 21st century can be. The book is filled with interesting anecdotes, some of them very enlightening, but in the end has no stance and seems to not carry an idea to any logical conclusion. It's more a review, perhaps in an attempt to have no opinion. But at least it had some good anecdotes and good definitions.

No. There is no "cultural appropriation". That's just another made-up SJW buzzword used to demonize people who aren't doing anything wrong, by people who have no real problems to talk about.

Nobody owns culture, and culture is meant to be shared. Also, what about the inventions of white people? I never hear anyone complain about "cultural appropriation" whenever someone uses something made by whites or participates in a specific European culture. Hm, makes you think.
