It is a beautiful book worthy of my coffee table. The poetry is often uplifting in contrast to its often grim tales of Ireland's history. In spite of its darkness the beauty of the poetry inspires hope, which is after all the history of Ireland. I quote from the author's selection of poems, "The Dance Half Done by Mary Ann Larkin":
"...We are stamped by this
land of murmurs and half-heard chants
a dreaminess in our gaze
hands caught in mid-air
eyes following a passage of light
The young women wrap themselves in grey wool
and go walking
The young men watch..."

A good collection of poems but Oscar Wilde should have been included.
