Ahoy! First published in 1950, Golden Books is pleased to reissue this delightful hardcover collection of 24 stories and poems, including Pirate’s Cove, The Little Lost Island, and The Careful, Cheerful Sailor by Kathyrn and Byron Jackson. All sea-loving children—and their parents—will be wowed by Gustaf Tenggren’s beautiful illustrations.
Kathryn Jackson wrote hundreds of lively, witty stories for Golden Books, most of which were coauthored with her husband, Byron. The Saggy Baggy Elephant is one of the pair’s most famous titles. Golden Books that Kathryn Jackson wrote on her own include Tawny Scrawny Lion, Nurse Nancy, Pantaloon, Richard Scarry’s The Animals’ Merry Christmas, and Richard Scarry’s A Story a Day: 365 Stories and Rhymes.
The illustrations!! Squirt and I would enjoy this book even if we didn't read a word. The stories are okay, the poems are fun, but the illustrations? Fantastic.
Probably my favorite book from my childhood. Now I have it for my son. Great sea stories & poems for boys & girls of all ages. Still enjoyable after 35 years or so!
My boys were all smiling throughout every short story and poem in this little volume. The illustrations by Gustaf Tenggren are so jolly and whimsical. Perfect bedtime fodder.
