A book that skims over Russian myths without dwelling on details.
In less than 150 pages, the reader is taken through pagan beliefs, emblematic figures such as Baba Yaga, the importance of the four elements and the major stages of life in Russian culture. All in all, a good introduction to this little-known folklore.
However, the brevity of the book prevents any real immersion. The stories are skimmed over in quick succession, leaving a frustrating impression of an overview. Despite the care taken with the transitions between chapters, the tone remains cold and a little dry, which detracts from the fluidity of the reading experience.
