The Existence of God: A Philosophical Introduction

Does God exist? What are the various arguments that seek to prove the existence of God? Can atheists refute these arguments? The Existence of God: A Philosophical Introduction assesses classical and contemporary arguments concerning the existence of God: Bringing the subject fully up to date, Yujin Nagasawa explains these arguments in relation to recent research in cognitive science, the mathematics of infinity, big bang cosmology, and debates about ethics and morality in light of contemporary political and social events. The book also includes fascinating insights into the passions, beliefs and struggles of the philosophers and scientists who have tackled the challenge of proving the existence of God, including Thomas Aquinas, and Kurt Gödel - who at the end of his career as a famous mathematician worked on a secret project to prove the existence of God. The Existence of God: A Philosophical Introduction is an ideal gateway to the philosophy of religion and an excellent starting point for anyone interested in arguments about the existence of God.

A well balanced introduction to the current debate on some of the main arguments for the existence of God. This book is an extraordinarily quick read if you're already familiar with the literature.

A classical theist philosophical introduction to arguments for and against the existence of god. The book shows a obvious bias towards classical theism over the critiques of such a paradigm, it straw mans the negative arguments by being overly focused on the trees over that of the forest. Such a focus could be blamed on him being overly analytic philosophy brained over intentionally straw manning. I would say this book would be good for those looking for a good presentation of the positive arguments for the existence of god, but eh for everyone else. Part 1 was good, the rest was meh.

This is a good introduction to three major arguments for God’s existence and gives a fair account of the objections to the respective arguments. Be aware though, that the authors positive attitude toward God’s existence surfaces occasionally.

Covers a lot of ground and sets out an up to date description of the current landscape of the debate and in a fairly balanced manner.

Highly recommend as an introduction to the philosophy of religion and specifically the existence of God.
