Start your review of Hat Box: The Collected Lyrics

To say I "read" this is an understatement. I'm still reading it, and I suspect I'll go back to it quite often, as I continue to dive into Sondheim's work.
I don't know what a non-fan would get out of this, but I suspect they'd still enjoy it, considering the frank, intelligent way he speaks about his craft. This basically doubles up as an "elements of style" or "On Writing" of lyricism.
It's easy to get lost in this book, jumping from show to show, chapter to chapter. It's an active read, like ope ...more
