I found Ezrin's approach to weight loss and the foods you need to eat to be realistic. This is a program that fully explains itself. You learn about the endocrine and digestive systems and the different nutritive value of foods. Ezrin clearly states why Americans are continuing to gain weight, even when they diet. He explains the way ketosis works and why his program is safer and more effective than Atkins'. The best part of the book is the encouraging, non-judgmental tone that he uses as he urges readers to make these healthy lifestyle changes. And although he is a doctor (at one time mine) he is very careful to mention at several key points to work this program with your own doctor, not to go it alone, especially if you already have diabetes. What was also refreshing was how easy the provided recipes and meal plans will be to follow. I have read numerous health food and weightless recipe books where you have to find strange ingredients, like coconut amines to replace soy sauce, etc. Every ingredient he recommends and recipe is easy to shop for and cook. This is important especially for family's where both parents work outside the home or for working single people. They may not have the luxury of finding some of the more exotic ingredients, like rose water, or have tons of time to prepare food. I give this book four stars simply because people can follow the program with some determination, but without it being too stressful.

I have never lost weight like this before. The information in this book made it easy to understand why I gained weight and how I could lose it. I found the diet easy to stick with, and when I cheated it was easy to return to without guilt. I lost 40 pounds and then took a break. I am back on the diet again and plan to lose another 40. I feel like a got my life back.
