If I could give this book a negative number, I would. The misinformation is astounding and it is copyrighted in the year 2000!! Farmers don't starve their chickens ( a process the book refers to as molting) in order to control egg prices. Molting is a natural annual event in a chicken's life when they lose old feathers and grow new ones. The energy required to grow new feathers is so taxing on the chicken that the chicken is unable to produce or lay eggs. Furthermore, the book touts the importance of not eating foods with preservatives or processing and yet praises the processing of tofu into TVP, milk, cheese, etc... It is one thing to desire a healthy lifestyle and happy lives for animals, it is quite another to purposely glorify eating habits that are deficient in essential nutrients.

Just grabbed this off the shelf at the library as I was passing by. Pretty good info for the vegan-curious kiddos. Little too heavy on the soy recommendations, but it's 16 years old. Mentions the need for B12 supplementation, which I'm not too sure about. Some info about animal cruelty, but not too heavy, since it seems to be written for about high elementary and middle school age.
