Turgenev’s “prose poems” consist of a variety of short texts: Dreams, fantasies, allegories, dialogues, insights, recollections, cautionary tales and some of the first examples of what we can call “microfiction”. In this sense, they are not as poetic as the prose poems of Baudelaire or Rimbaud – but who cares? These are the last fruits of a writer at the end of his career and more importantly, his life: All these small pieces have either a bitter taste, or a momentary release from this bitternes ...more
