This book was sent to me by a friend who loves books as much as I do, and she was so excited to share it because it's out of print and apparently difficult to find. She wrote an inscription that is very special, so I will not be sending it on to anyone else, and it will stay with the other books on my shelves I cannot part with.
This book was originally published in 1986 and a lot of the ideology and thought processes are probably outdated compared to the way of the world in 2021, possibly even frowned upon, with anecdotes and stories by people today's youth and young adults will never have heard of. It is still a timeless classic and reminds us that everyone deserves to be happy and to be loved, and we have the power to make it happen. It also tells us that second chances are possible if we just open our minds and our hearts to making it so.
In order to savor the message of this book I read it slowly; one anecdote or story every evening. I've highlighted so many passages, but the one that spoke to me the loudest was the very sentence my friend Laura highlighted for me before sending it:
"Three essential elements for happiness are something to do, something to hope for, and someone to love." The essence of the entire book!

I am reading this book in hard cover because I can't get this author's book on kindle. It is a very good book.I worked at social services for 30 years and saw a lot of unhappy things happen to people.I learned that it is not what happens to you but how you handle it.I could never feel sorry for myself because there was always someone in a worse situation.I have my father's philosophy in life.Things could be worse.
This book asks celebrities about what is happiness. The answers might surprise you.It is an older book but the thoughts therein are still relevant ,perhaps even more so now .
