Jim Robinson was the oldest cowboy working on the Trailback ranch and when the ranch owners decided to sell the ranch because of the blizzard of 1886 the ranch hands all go on their way. Jim is hired by the infamous gunslinger Clay Allison to go to Mexico and bring back a herd of horses from Mexico. Through some gun shooting adventures, Jim and his former ranchhands make it down to Mexico but have to fight for their lives to make it back to Texas. I won't give anything else away bu will say this is worth your time.

Good story. Winter of 1880 kills off a lot of cattle and cowboys are out of a job. There is a horse race, stolen money, a attempted train robbery, three women kidnapped to be sold into sex slavery, a couple of cowboys are hired to go to Mexico and bring back 500 horses to Colorado. A lot goes on this is book.

Good complications for plot, more than simple good-bad. Kincaid mom switches love too quickly. Jim and Texas pals are hired by Clay to bring horses from Mexico, but are mistaken by Mexicans for white slavers led by Shardeen who kidnap Kincaid girls.
