Time is a valuable commodity, but time is lost when we don't maximize our memory to the fullest. This workbook offers straightforward, scientifically tested strategies for getting the most out of our memory. Testing exercises can be used to check progress, and tips are offered on how to get the most out of our memory. Memory Booster Workout improves memory not only in test situations, but most importantly, in everyday life.
The book definitely has its strong points, its valuable information. Trouble is, I managed to summarise it into 4 or 5 pages of handwriting.
Making a comparison with my childhood favourite (who knows why) "Lern- und Arbeitstechnik", I came to realise that once upon a time books were filled with text and revolved around the knowledge they provide. Not to mention their price was much lower. Now, it's all about colour, pictures, and practical advice which is pulverized to a state of inanity. The only good thing about today's bookshops is that my generation has the chance to buy the book they want without waiting in line for days.
Frankly, "Memory Boosters" tended to annoy me at times. I didn't buy it to be lectured about the negative effects of alcohol, let alone in such a repetitive manner. The other view I can't agree with is that we shouldn't work at night, in the evenings, in the early afternoon, during the weekends or at any time that we're not on the workplace. The book goes even further to advise against watching TV or reading. Why? So we could get enough rest and a good night of sleep. Wow. So what am I actually supposed to do? Go to work and than ... go to bed? Somebody's trying to use their brain here.
Other than that, I liked the book. Though it was not exactly as informative as I hoped it to be. I actually though it might help me with the project I'm developing, an application for effective learning of foreign languages. I guess my search of suitable literature continues.
Memory Boosters is a book that is supposed to help you improve your memory in 10 steps. Even though I do not believe any 10 steps can help you have a better memory, and that this is only to make the book more popular, I really found this book to be interesting. The book design is very neat and colorful, which makes it more appealing to the reader. Some parts of it are obvious or repetitive, but others are extremely interesting.
