DO NOT READ BEFORE BEDTIME! 13 Chilling Tales is a book of original short stories. Most all of these tales were based on concepts that might possibly be expanded to novels. Since the paranormal has many layers of interest, this book samples a variety. We have a vampire, ghosts, a werewolf, the walking dead, a gypsy, a Ouija board, time travel, Bigfoot, and even Death himself. The endings will sneak up on you and are meant to shock or surprise. Many of the characters involved might resemble people you know. It is the author's intent to take you on a brief journey to visit things that we may never understand. In some cases these places may seem familiar and the settings realistic which, makes it all the more frightening. Many of these stories begin in the world of collectables, where naïve individuals purchase items from people they don't really know. They could be people who may have hidden motivations lying below the surface. Then again, it might be the item itself. Who was the former owner? Were they good, or evil, and still clinging to this item from the beyond? All too often a person buys an antique or collectable, and gets much more than they expected but when their realization takes place.....it is far too late! As a bonus there is a 14th story. The author dispels a true urban legend and ghost story. Incredibly it is an urban legend that was created unintentionally by author himself. An urban legend which he learned about 30 years later! You will read 13 Chilling tales and experience a spectrum of entertainment. Afterward, you may never view a flea market, antique fair, garage sale or second store the same ever again. Be careful what you bring home!
Spooky! Another great book by Edwin Becker - different stories - some are true and some are not true - a very good page turner! Gave it five stars for keeping me spookingly entertained.
Edwin Becker is a master chilling story teller! These 13 Chilling stories are all excellent! I liked each and everyone of them. The last story is a true story that is not only fascinating but something I believe we have all experienced one time or another during Halloween.
Ed reminds me of Ray Bradbury, Stephen King, and William Blatty.
Ed has had real life experiences with the paranormal, occult, and ghosts per his other outstanding book and the scariest one I've ever read called True Haunting. All I can say is get it now, read it, and beware! Can you imagine moving into a house in 1971 during summer and it being so cold inside not needing AC? There's more! Oh a lot more! Best book ever!! I read it in two days; couldn't put it down.
Ok - back to 13 Chilling Tales - The first story had me going up to the very end. I didn't have a clue. What a scary and creepy twist. Each story is so entwined in truth and paranormal but there is one story that stuck with me the most and it's called Favorite Things about a man going to a flea market and purchasing a fine crystal ball. The woman claimed she bought it by accident at a house sale, since Gypsies never sell their crystal balls, as it is forbidden within Gypsie culture.
I highly recommend this book for everyone that likes horror, creepy and weird, unknown, paranormal, occult, and the like.
Get True Haunting - An absolutely must read. The best of the best!! Then True Haunting 2.
I've read all of Ed's books and they are superb and page turners! When I find someone that writes this good with great true stories and great non-fiction stories with some truth sprinkled I stay with them.
Also, Ed wrote the Foreward to a recently new released book called Psychic Courier by Mary Lou Emami on Joseph Delouise. Joseph was the psychic who tried to rid the house on Campbell St. in True Haunting of evil spirits. Ed wrote the terrific Foreward in Psychic Courier.
If you've never read one of Ed's books or this one by Mary Lou Emami you're in for a real treat!
I was so looking forward to Mr. Becker entertaining me with another terrifying book but this was not the case. Two maybe three stories were chilling, the rest were quite boring. This was not what I expected. kozetteksmith
