Gossie and Gertie are best friends. They splash in the rain, play hide-and-seek, and they dive in the pond together. Everywhere Gossie goes, Gertie does too. Or does she?
With charming illustrations and gentle text, Olivier Dunrea has created two lovable, sweet characters that will appeal to the youngest listeners.
Since his debut in 1983, author and illustrator Olivier Dunrea has created a steady stream of picture books, including concept books, stories of family life—modern and ancient—and stories about artists. Many of Dunrea's picture books testify to his love of animals and his interest in archaeology and folklore of the British Isles, and several—including Ravena, The Trow-Wife's Treasure, and Bear Noel—take place in a similar land of Dunrea's own creation: the mythic island of Moel Eyris. "I don't write books or make pictures for children," Dunrea once told Something About the Author (SATA). "I make them for myself. It just so happens that children like what I do as much as I do!"
This story is so cute! I love the illustrations, especially how Gossie and Gertie always have their mouths hanging open. Gossie is a bit bossy, and Gertie usually follows her around because they're best friends. One day, Gertie stops following Gossie, and Gossie has to learn to compromise. Really simple, really cute. The only problem with this is that it's a tiny book, physically, so wouldn't be good for storytime. 2+
This is a sequel to the Gossie book which I loved so much. Olivier Dunrea introduces Gertie to us in Gossie and picks up right where she left off. Both goslings are adorable and I can't get enough of these feel good books. :) Even the way that Gossie gets frustrated is so darn cute!
Gossie and the boot thief from her first book are best friends now, and Gertie follows Gossie everywhere...until she doesn't. This is another cute book with sweet drawings of the two little goslings and their farm yard friends. Gossie learns that sometimes you have to let other people lead the way in a friendship. Wife's take: This one gets a little dark, though: "They watch in the night" with an image of two hypervigilant goslings literally watching each others backs against an inky background is sandwiched between bright, fun paintings of the two of them diving in the pond and frolicking in haystacks. WTF?! Kiddo: Sheeeeeep!
Gossie is a small yellow gosling who wears bright red boots, and Gertie is a small yellow gosling who wears bright blue boots. They are best friends.
In this story, they experience a situation that commonly occurs in friendships: one person always being the leader and the other person finally getting fed up with being constantly bossed around. The remedy, of course, is to take turns being in charge.
This is something to which most young children can relate and a lesson everyone needs to learn. While there's nothing wrong with taking the lead, it's important to let others have a say in deciding a course of action. Otherwise, they will feel marginalized and unimportant.
This is the second book in a series of board books for very young children. My granddaughter (2) really liked the first (Gossie). So in good Nan fashion I went right back and got her this one too. (Gotta encourage her love of reading!) These are going to be a big hit. The stories and artwork are perfect to immediately get the littles attention. I’m quite taken with them too. Can’t wait for the third in this series!
I have QUESTIONS about this book. 'They watch in the night'? What THINGS lurk in the dark in the universe of Gossie and her friends? Why has the author peppered in ominous hints that not all is as peaceful as it seems?
For real, my kid loves these books. 4 stars out of 5, and the only reason it isn't 5 stars is because I can't bear to have to read them out loud one more time. I'm going to, but I'm going to be grumpy about it.
My grandson loved the blue beetle that Gertie found.
The gosling girlfriends are really kind to each other and there are surprises in the art work that delight. I am happy I have this kindle version. My grandson enjoyed swiping to turn the page.
This is a cute read. I don't find it exceptional, but it is definitely cute! I like that this version has both the English and the Spanish on each page. I wish more books did this; I think it'd help children with at least being familiar with multiple languages.
Our second book in the adorable series about the fun goslings. This one is about best friends who typically do everything together until one day, the younger gosling goes rogue. Elliot loves these books, so I have several more on hold at the library
I love how this book illustrates that we can both take turns leading and following. And just because someone says to follow doesn't mean we have to follow them if we feel lead in another direction.
Gossie & Gertie is a fun easy read that is much humor tied into it. The two ducklings take you along with them on their full day of activities with a little twist at the end. If you are looking for a quick read to add to your goodreads list. This is the book for you.
My daughter loved this series, and this particular one was her favorite, through the toddler and early elementary years. We read the whole series almost every night. Now, we're introducing them to my little son and he is just as delighted as she was. These are must haves for every child's library.
Gossie and Gertie are best friends. Gossie wears red boots, and Gertie wears blue boots. The two friends spend the day together, as Gossie leads, and Gertie follows until Gertie stops following, Something occurs that makes Gossie follow Gertie.
Gossie and Gertie are best friends. Gossie wears red boots. Gertie wears blue boots. But trouble arises when Gertie stops following Gossie everywhere and starts following other things. The two friends figure it out in the end.
I actually liked this one better than some of the other books in this series. They're all quick reads with simple text. M is getting a bit too old for these, and she doesn't like them as much as she used to.
I like the concept of the Green Light Readers and wish they were easier to find. This one gets a three because most children will not have a best friend when they are four to eight years old who will remain their best friend forever. Only Jesus can do that for us.
This book is about two goslings that are best friends, Gertie follows Gossie nearly everywhere. Gossie gets frustrated when Gertie does not continue to follow, but they both still have a fun day together. - This could be used to show how friends do not need to always do the same things to have fun
