Fast paced Lou Prophet western. Somewhat crude, if you don't like that.

After getting hooked on the old tv show Gunsmoke, this summer, I decided to pick out a western to read. I came across The Devil’s Winchester at the local library and was drawn to the story of a bounty hunter and his female partner. I’ve always been a sucker for a chick that can kick butt.

You don’t have to wait long for the action to start in this book. It’s there almost from the get go. I must warn you though, if foul language and descriptions of sexual situations bother you, then you might want to pass on this book. By the time I reached chapter 3, I was contemplating not finishing the book. But the story line had drawn me in enough that I decided to give it a 2nd chance.

Louisa Bonaventure (aka The Vengeance Queen) is one tough chick that has a habit of taking BIG risks, but working together with her partner, Lou Prophet, they always seem to get their man. Even one as ruthless as Blanco Metalious. This won’t be an easy bounty to haul in and things only get harder when they come across a young woman claiming to have amnesia. Prophet and Louisa aren’t sure what to make of the girl. They can’t be sure if she’s telling the truth or pulling a fast one on them, especially after Blanco claims to know her. To make matters worse the bounty hunters also have to contend with Sam “Man-Killin” Metalious, Blanco’s father. He’s a man with his hand in all the bad things that happen in and around the town of Corazon, and that’s exactly where they are headed with Blanco.

This is one fast paced book with some twists and turns that will keep you guessing. With vivid descriptions of the town and it’s surroundings, the book played out like a movie in my head. A movie that drew me in and wouldn’t let go.

With the female co-star's name, Louisa, appearing waaayyyyyyyyyy too often, this book lost its luster--and I lost my interest. I did not appreciate the female co-star. ugh
