This little book is a tool for parents. It doesn't just teach about colors - but it also helps to teach children to LOOK for the good around them beginning by teaching them to look for SMILES in what they see. Each page of the book is devoted to a color - take green - the pictures show an apple with two seed eyes and a fold in the skin & fruit becomes the smile. It also shows a recycle bin with 2 holes for cell phones & inkjet cartridges for eyes and a line underneath forming a smile. Each of the pages takes everyday items that LOOK like a smile with eyes and a mouth. You might see a tractor, fruit, a zipper and two snaps, two bolts and a split in wood, and even the old standard - a picture in the clouds.

The ultimate value in this book is that it TEACHES your children to look for the good in life. Instead of thinking ICK or YUCK your child learns to think that it might be GOOD, to TRY new things and give it a CHANCE.

This little book should be in every library - at home, school and every city library. It makes a great birthday gift - or for just because.

Reading this with my 3 year old daughter earned it an extra star. Two of her favorite things are colors and "happy faces". She flipped out when we read this book.

You will find yourself looking for Smiley Faces in ways and places you never would have thought of before! I can't stress enough how much this book should be in your child's library! It's beautiful, bright, cheery! It put a whole NEW spin on smiley faces for anyone, especially if you have children or children visit you! I was just as enamored as any young child would be with this cheery, happy, colorful book! Again, this is what this book makes you feel like! SO HAPPY! You've GOT to get this book! I can tell you if you are ever feeling down or depressed, pick up this book! You will be re-energized and as happy as can be! Just like the Smiley Faces!

This book is full of smiles and colors. Seeing the positive and the smiles in everything will improve your life. The rhyming words and cheerful message wrap around smiley faces found in everyday life; such as headphones, coffee pots and wagon tongues. If you look, you can find a smile anywhere. Each page has pictures with every day things that have a smile on it. And each page is a different color. The book teaches colors while also teaching about cheerfulness. The age group for this book is 3 to 6. But adults will enjoy the book just as much as children. If you would like to submit your own photo there is a website that donates $1, for every photo uploaded, to Operation Smile. Operation Smile provides free surgeries for children born with facial deformities. So this book is not only fun, cute and uplifting; it is supporting a good cause.

I received this book free of charge from Children's Literature in exchange for my honest review.

The Smiley Book of Colors is children’s picture book that not only teaches the basic colors, but it is also an inspirational book about choosing to be happy in life. Each two-page spread has a color word, a small amount of inspirational text, and real photographs of everyday objects of that particular color. Within these everyday objects, you can see a smiley face. I love this book! The author, Ruth Kaiser, had a brilliant idea when making this book. The rhyming text is catchy, and the words make you think about how being happy is a choice that we can all choose. The words are simple enough for a young child to understand, yet have a deeper meaning for an older person to enjoy. The photographs of everyday items are fascinating. I am now looking at everyday items through a different lens and trying to find smiley faces within them. This book would make a great coffee table book, a graduation gift, or a book in my classroom library.

I thought this book was adorable! What a fun idea to find smiley faces in every day things.

This is kind of two books in one, a book of colors, but there is also a cute, rhyming text about choosing to be happy. This is such an important message, one which I try to teach my children, and try to remember myself! The text of choosing our thoughts fits in perfectly with the idea of finding smiley faces all around us - we look for and find what we want in our lives.

I think parents and children will like this twist on a book of colors. Having read many such books to my kids over the years, it is nice to find one with an engaging rhyming text with an uplifting message to go along with the basics of learning colors. Also the pictures that will have kids scouring the pages, and their world, for smiley faces.

Disclosure: I received a copy of this book from the author for review.

It'd be just 2 stars for it's cheesy, rhyming text that keeps telling you to choose to be happy. I'm all behind that it's your choice, but the text distracted from the colors and full enjoyment of pictures. Because honestly, the pictures could say it all--and that was my favorite part! I adore smiley faces and smiling, and it was so fun to see all the different smiles around us. That upped the rating to about 3.5 stars. Too bad I couldn't have included the smiley flowers I've seen in the Salt Lake Temple! :-)

Not a good choice for a storytime, but fabulous for a read-alone--even with a young child! Lap-read would work well, especially if working with the color aspect.

A very positive book encouraging readers to find the beauty in this world and add to it by smiling! Pictures feature "smiles" found in nature in ordinary everyday objects. Pictures are themed by color and cover the basics as well as gray and pink.Fun pictures for a child, great uplifting text that would/should inspire adults dealing with difficult moments.

What a difficult book to rate! The text of this one is bad, really bad in my opinion. But the photographs, well, the photographs are interesting and engaging. And it is so very easy to ignore the text completely and just enjoy this book for what it is--a collection of photographs sharing a theme. Each picture is a "smiley" face.

I'm not sure about this book,I didn't think the smileys were that obvious and I'd have to have an actual child read it to see if they got it. It was bright and colorful and I like the idea of looking at things in new ways.

I know this book was meant to be cute, but it really was creepy to me! I think it's just me though. Inanimate objects with faces often creep me out.
