"The Book of Revelation is the book for the present hour. There is a special blessing promised to those who read it and to those who hear it and treasure the truth that God has seen fit to give us. . ." With these words Donald Barnhouse begins this helpful devotional commentary on the New Testament book that puzzles so many . The hallmark of this commentary is its applicability to Christian living and not simply its clear explanation of the text.
Donald Grey Barnhouse Th.D was an American Christian preacher, pastor, theologian, radio pioneer, and writer. He was pastor of the Tenth Presbyterian Church in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania from 1927 to his death in 1960. As a pioneer in radio broadcasting, his program, The Bible Study Hour, continues today and is now known as Dr. Barnhouse & the Bible.
Overall, a good book for the researcher and enthusiast. Read for personal research - found this book's contents helpful and inspiring - number rating relates to the book's contribution to my needs.
If you are interested in an in-depth study of Revelation and are ok with LOTS of information, this is THE book. I read through 5 other commentary books - each of which had its own pluses and minuses - and this one had no minuses, whatsoever. This is the second book by Barnhouse that I have read (the first was The Invisible War, which was also excellent) and I was not disappointed. I have to guess that in seminary school, his doctorate was done on Revelation or on some part of it. HIGHLY recommended for anyone who needs a commentary book as a companion to the Bible in a study of Revelation.
