Books 4 and 5 in the Lakeside Mountain Rescue series bring us more doctors and nurses, and was a bit of a mixed bag—the first involving a marriage in crisis which had me I leaping between from like and dislike, frustrated over a lack of basic communication between Mr. and Mrs. Garcia and wanting to kick the him right where it hurt for his 1950’s mentality.

Which marriage rulebook says that it’s the woman who has to make all the changes in her life?”

2 - Miffed Stars.

I never thought I would ever be rating a duology by this author with such a low rating.

In short I disliked the couple in the first book; The Christmas Marriage Rescue, and I was so bored I gave up on book two; The Midwife's Christmas Miracle. The writing was the authors usual standard, but with not liking the characterisations in the first and the tropes used in both of them, books five and six in the Lakeside Mountain Rescue Series, were a huge disappointment for me.

Once again a perfect setting of the lake district and I loved the thrill of the story being set among the mountains and hospital.

The two leading ladies are Christy and Miranda while the leading men are Alessandro and Jake. Set in two halfs one from Christy's point of view one from Miranda's.

Jake, Christy and Alessandro have knew each other for quite some time. Christy has two children with Alessandro. He is a brilliant father but to me lacking in the importance of acknowledging his wife at the s ...more

This book contains 2 stories a little darker than the usual SM's books but heartwarming nonetheless.

This was a real cheese-fest. Not really surprising in a mills and boon book. However it was lovely and Christmasy and a real feel-good book. It was exactly what I expected it to be and I enjoyed it all the more for it.

I expect I'll read a few more Christmas romance books along the same lines this December and I hope I enjoy them all as much as this one. ...more

Wish Upon A Star is a book with two separate stories, Christy's and Mirandas. They have a location and one character mainly in common but they are very different stories, but both really enjoyable.

Christy's story features Christmas as the heart of it, as all her kids want is for them to go home, and back to Alessandro, in the Lake District, for Christmas. She reluctantly agrees, but for the children's sake more than anything. Once back she is called into action alongside Alessandro, as 4.5 Stars

Christy's story features Christmas as the heart of it, as all her kids want is for them to go home, and back to Alessandro, in the Lake District, for Christmas. She reluctantly agrees, but for the children's sake more than anything. Once back she is called into action alongside Alessandro, as an A&E nurse, a role she gave up when she had Ben, and it starts make Alessandro realise things about Christy's life.

Ben and Katy, hatch a small series of stunts to try and get their parents sleeping in the same bed again, and I was very impressed with Katy. She may only be 11 but is incredibly observant, and old beyond her years would suggest.

There is hot simmering chemistry between Alessandro and Christy which they spend more time denying than exploring, but the sex scenes were hot and enjoyable!

I was aware that Sarah Morgan has written medical romances in the past, but hadn't read any, I now know for certain, that I would love them, the way I love her other books, as Wish Upon A Star has doctors, nurses and supporting staff as the starring characters, and the hospital scenes in both parts of the book, drew me in and really engaged me. It's been many years since I last read a Mills & Boon medical romance, and I have no idea why. Turns out I still really enjoy the sub genre.

The second story is more gentle, and a lot less festive. It starts on Christmas Day, where Miranda is rescued by Jake (Jake is godfather to Katy, and works alongside Alessandro and Christy at both the hospital and on the mountain rescue team), and there seems to be a connection between them at least on Jake's side intially.

Miranda is a midwife, and Jake is an obstetrician and are a great team working together, and some of the deliveries had me holding me breath, praying that everyone was ok.

Oddly I think the most fascinating aspect of Wish Upon A Star was the mountain rescue team. I've not encountered one of those before, and seeing them in action, especially on how they get a stretcher down a mountain is impressive, and very detailed.

Although I didn't get a very Christmassy vibe from the majority of the book, despite its pretty cover, implying as much, it is still a very enjoyable book, with two contrasting stories, that I loved equally. I may have said it before, I'm sure I will say it again, I love Sarah Morgan's books and get more impressed with each one I have read. ...more

THE CHRISTMAS MARRIAGE RESCUE

An enjoyable read. I love the rescue team at the Lake District.
Alessandro, the Spanish hero in this book, is hot and delicious! Christy is fabulous - strong, intelligent and capable. However, both hero and heroine needed a good slap! They didn't communicate clearly even though they were both crazy about each other. The kids in this story were fabulous and conversations with and between them hilarious!

This was my first Sarah Morgan book and i can safely report that it won't be my last. It was a thoroughly enjoyable read and i even learnt a few things along the way, about mountain rescue, a & e nurses and being a midwife.

Wonderful characters and so well written, so much so that u really feel a part of the story.

They are able to talk when they find themselves at the hospital at the same time. It's very busy with the holidays, staff not there, and holiday travel. The kids sense getting them back together is not working so they try to force them by jumping on their mom's bed hoping to break it so she'll have to sleep with their dad in the same bed. That backfires when the dad says he will take the couch and give the bed to the mother. Again the kids try, other things to get them back together.
Part of the hospital job is going out on mountain rescue missions. Alessandro is going to one and doesn't want Christy to go incase anything should happen one of them will be around to raise the kids. She wants to go also. They are spending a lot more time together, during emergencies and they are able to talk more about their problem.
Love the details of what goes into a mountain rescue especially an avalanche.

Next section is called Miranda
Jake found her body in the snow, Miranda. He put his hat on her and tried to give her a candy bar. She was shivering so bad.
It was Christmas day and he did not want to alert the rescue squad so they decided they would walk down the mountain.
They talked a lot on the way down and got to know one another.
He took her back to his place and gave her a hot bath and fed her and she stayed the night, on the couch. When the phone rang in the morning he went into another room, it was the hospital-they needed him. When he got back to the living room she was gone.
He didn't even know her name or where to find her. She was hiding a lot of things from him and she did not want to share them with anybody.
Miranda shows up at the hospital, she's a mid wife and shes 6 months pregnant also.
Second day at the hospital, he brings her to her home and things don't go quite good.
A lot of other meaningful things happen and they talk a lot more to get to know one another better.
Good to know this author will have another book out the summer of 2012.

Wish Upon a Star is a lovely book that I deeply enjoyed. It has two very cute stories and I read it in only one day.

this book also had 2 stories in one. I struggled through part one to the point I was going to give up. but part 2 stole my heart. I loved watch jake and marinda story unfold.

I'm never disappointed with Sarah's stories. Christy takes her kids and leaves Alessandro because he is too busy to notice her any more. The kids convince her to go back for Christmas and their daughter Katy ( 11 going on 30) manages to make sure that they can't ignore their feelings. After his best friend Jake makes him see the error of his ways, Alessandro manages to mend fences with his wife and they are happy again.

This book really took me by surprise. I was desperate for a lovely festive read and fell straight away for the cover of this book when I saw it on Net Galley, so I quickly requested it. Little did I know that it was a Mills and Boon book! To be honest I was shocked. I grew up reading my nan's Mills and Boons books and although I enjoyed them they were quite a secretive read. This was mainly due to the covers, so I was quite surprised to see such a lovely cover on this book.

I was even more flabb This book really took me by surprise. I was desperate for a lovely festive read and fell straight away for the cover of this book when I saw it on Net Galley, so I quickly requested it. Little did I know that it was a Mills and Boon book! To be honest I was shocked. I grew up reading my nan's Mills and Boons books and although I enjoyed them they were quite a secretive read. This was mainly due to the covers, so I was quite surprised to see such a lovely cover on this book.

I was even more flabbergasted when I realised how much I loved this book. It was a comforting yet realistic read that was just perfect for the season of goodwill.

The book is made up of two stories which are interlinked as a secondary character in the first story becomes the major character in the next. The first story is about Christy, a mother of two who has left the marital home after falling out with her husband. This story takes us on a journey to see them reunited in time for Christmas Day.

Christy dithers quite a bit and the miscommunication and misunderstanding of each other's feelings began to grate on my nerves a little. I wanted to sit Christy and Alessandro down for a marriage guidance session. Alessandro is a little too bullish for my liking. You get the impression that onlyhis opinion matters and I was pleased to see Christy stand up to him. I found his Alpha male attitude a bit tiring for my liking, but I warmed to him by the end of the story. Their daughter Katie was hilarious as she went out of her way to play Cupid between her parents. The things she got her brother blamed for in the name of love; poor little soul was constantly in trouble. I wasn't always convinced by Katie's language as for an eleven year old she seemed sometimes far too mature for her age. Having two eleven year olds myself, I could never imagine them talking to me with such maturity.

My favourite character in the book is Jake, who thankfully is one of the main characters in the second story, Miranda. He is so sweet and loving, as well as being protective and understanding just the type of man everyone is looking for.

To be honest, I loved the story of Miranda more than Christy's story. I loved the relationship between Jake and Miranda. How he took this pregnant unmarried mother under his wing was just beautiful, even though she fought him all the way, as she was determined to keep her independence. The second story was definitely more realistic and gritty too as it deals with teenage pregnancy and abandoned babies. Not the type of subjects I expected to find in a Mills and Boons book.

On the whole, I really enjoyed Sarah Morgan's style of writing. I found I could believe in the characters and I whipped through both books rather quickly. I loved the way both stories were interconnected and followed on from each other.

I would love to see more of the Mills and Boon books with new covers. I am positive they would appeal more to the modern chick lit brigade if they all looked like this one. I really enjoyed the book and think I may have found a new secret guilty pleasure in Mills and Boon books! ...more

In the first one, Christy is still reeling from the temporary separation from her husband Alessandro, which is starting to look like a permanent thing even though she never intended for things to turn out that way, she was just trying to give Alessandro a wake up call as to the state of their marriage - namely that he worked too much, took her for granted and that they only 'quality' time t The Deal: Wish Upon a Star is a compilation of two stories that have a lot to do with the Christmas season.

In the first one, Christy is still reeling from the temporary separation from her husband Alessandro, which is starting to look like a permanent thing even though she never intended for things to turn out that way, she was just trying to give Alessandro a wake up call as to the state of their marriage - namely that he worked too much, took her for granted and that they only 'quality' time they spent together was in bed - but he didn't quite get the message she wanted.

Instead, Alessandro - a brilliant doctor - is gutted by what he sees as Christy's desertion and by the fact she moved with their kids to London. But, after 12 years of marriage, he isn't sure what he should do, specially after their two kids demand the four of them spend Christmas together.

Between being back under the same roof, their scheming children, the help of their best friend Jake and the general awesomeness of the season, Christy and Alessandro don't stand a chance.

In the second story, Jake Blackwell was trying to avoid spending Christmas in his big empty house or surrounded by his happily married best friends - Christy and Alessandro from the first story - when he came across a nearly frozen woman named Miranda, while hiking in the mountains near his home.

Miranda was just trying to find a way to quiet her despairing thoughts when she got lost in the mountain, and was quite glad to met Jake there, but wasn't so glad when he wouldn't leave her in peace. Still, the loneliness got the better of her and she ended up agreeing when Jake offered to take her to his house so she could get warm and so neither of them had to spend the day alone.

It had been a really long time since Jake felt true interest for any woman, and Miranda intrigues him, so he's none too pleased when he discovers her gone after one very heated kiss between them, and great is his surprise when he finds her again, a few hours later, and realizes that a) she's the new midwife working in his ward (he's an obstetrician) and b) that she's six months pregnant.

My Thoughts: I was sort of expecting Wish Upon a Start to be something fluffy and chick-lit-ish, but it was a bit different. This special release by author Sarah Morgan is actually a compilation of two previously released category romances, and they were very good in their own way.

Sarah Morgan has a style that pulls you in right away, and since I was in the mood for something quick, Christmasy and fun, this book worked very well for me.

Since the stories are rather short, there isn't a lot of character development but the characters still have enough depth even if Alessandro and Chisty are a little archetypical - him, hot blooded Spaniard, she a fiery red head - and comunication isn't their forte.

I admit that I would have liked more length in "Miranda" since I think the story had a lot more to give, but it was still my favorite of the two.

All in all, it was a lovely read, and great for this holiday season. ...more

First of all, I had no idea this wasn’t a full novel. When I initially picked this up off of Net Galley I thought it was one story, but upon reading I quickly discovered that wasn’t the case. After about fifty pages in and things clicking along pretty quickly I realized it would be hard to draw it out for more than maybe another hundred pages. I flipped ahead to discover a second story and was actually pretty excited about it. I’m a huge fan of short stories when written well and these were actually a little longer than a short story but still very well written. It also was a great fit for a Christmas Chick Lit story making it an incredibly quick and fun read!

Having not expected Miranda and Jake’s story I just took it as a bit of a bonus read and thoroughly enjoyed it though I think I enjoyed Christy and Allesandro’s story the best. From the first chapter I was completely captured by Christy and couldn’t help but wonder why it was that she left her very attractive and successful husband. What came after was a story about forgiveness mixed with a wonderful family Christmas with their scheming children. As for Miranda and Jake, I loved how persistent he was and of course I’m a sucker for a happily ever after which definitely happened.

Wish Upon A Star by Sarah Morgan is the perfect cozy romantic chick lit novel for the holidays. Easily read in one or two settings due to the break up between the two short stories within it’s pages.
