Veteran SWAT cop Tony Jones lays out the essential elements of planning and carrying out tactical SWAT operations. Covers mission analysis, obstacle breaching, light-armored vehicle use, fire and maneuver, target recon, hostage/suspect/team considerations and more.
I found this book interesting as someone who knows nothing about SWAT operations beyond what one sees in movies. That said, while it claims to be a “SWAT Operator’s Guide,” I think it falls short in this regard, since most of the information is very basic—the kind of thing taught in your first class at SWAT school. I’m not sure what use this book would be to an actual SWAT operator, except for a few tips on morale and similar topics. Overall, it’s good for a brief look into SWAT operations, but not particularly useful for real SWAT operators.
