The underlying plot, dealing with the kidnapping and sale of young boys for criminal profit, is both intriguing and disturbing. When Abby Weaver inserts herself into a kidnapping case (largely because the kidnapped boy resembles her own), she seems little more than a concerned neighbor trying to help other parents. Soon the action begins to affect her and her family as the interconnections among the people around her are revealed.

Most of the novel’s suspense comes from the multiple levels of ant

Child’s Play deals with the selling and exploitation and selling of young boys to pedophiles. With that said, journalist Abby Weaver’s son resembles two boys that disappeared and she fears that he is next. She gets involved with the case so much that it affects her relationships and herself.

This was a suspenseful novel to a degree and the characters were interesting enough, but it didn’t hold up throughout and sometimes I caught myself losing interest. Yes, there is some editorial and grammatic

Child's Play was your standard crime mystery novel, an easy read that wasn't the most well written. It was entertaining enough for a mindless read, but the characters were fairly vanilla and the "villians" weren't difficult to figure out fairly quickly. Perhaps with another round of editing for character development, this book could have been much better. All that to say, if you're looking for a quick and mindless "beach read," this is a decent choice.

Growing up an Air Force “Brat” meant frequent moves giving Deborah Wallis the opportunity to live in several states, quite literally, from coast to coast. California to Maryland and several stops in between were all home for her at one time or another. Overseas tours in Japan and Belgium highlighted those vagabond years. Deborah graduated from SHAPE American High School near Mons, Belgium.
