Simple Button Hat Pattern

Knit side to side on straight needles this rectangle hat has no button hole, just a tab that you can sew a favorite button to, so choose a fun funky vintage or ceramic button to complete the hat! A thick and thin handspun yarn is especially nice for this hat pattern. No increasing or decreasing necessary, just cast on, knit, purl, and bind - you need to know how to knit, purl, cast on, and bind off. 18 (20, 22) inches around. Most adult heads are about 20 inches around. To make the hat you will yards of bulky weight yarn, preferably a thick and thin handspun yarn-Size 15 needles-A tapestry needle to weave in ends-Needle and thread for sewing button-Button of your choice, at least one inch 2 stitches/inch. Do a gauge swatch to make sure you have the correct gauge hat can be done in only 50 yards of bulky weight yarn, but to make it longer to fully cover the ears, use 75 yards. A fun variation for this hat would be to knit the cuff in a novelty handspun yarn and the rest of the hat in a plainer yarn- a great way to use up a special bit of yarn.
