“I caught my day-care provider drugging my children with cough syrup and Tylenol to get them to sleep while I was away,” Brenda says. “It was then that I decided that I needed to do something from home.”
However, writing was the last profession she expected to undertake. In fact, Brenda swears she didn’t have a creative bone in her body. In school, math and science were her best subjects, and when it came time to pick a major in college, she chose business.
Abandoning her academic scholarship to Brigham Young University at the age of 20 in order to get married and start a family, Brenda dabbled in commercial real estate, then became a loan officer.
“When I first got the idea to become a novelist, it took me five years to teach myself the craft and finish my first book,” Brenda admits. “I learned how to write by reading what others have written. The best advice for any would-be author: read, read, read….”
Brenda sold her first book, and the rest is history. Now a New York Times and USA Today bestselling author, she continues to publish two or three novels a year, in a variety of genres.
Brenda and her husband, Ted, live in Sacramento and are the proud parents of five children—three girls and two boys. Now that they are empty-nesters, she spends her free time babysitting her two grandchildren.
When she’s not with her family or writing, Brenda is usually raising money for diabetes research. To date, she's raised almost $2.6 million. Her youngest son, Thad, has diabetes, and Brenda is determined to help him and others like him. She also enjoys traveling, watching sporting events and biking--she rides an amazing 20 miles every day!

Review for Brenda Novak's, Just like The Ones We Used To Know......
One of my favorite authors, Ms. Brenda Novak sure has written a jewel with this Christmas story. As so typical of this author, she writes about people that have survived from a perilous situation. And this story, about a young woman and her young ward is no different.
All I want for Christmas ....... this was the title of a school essay written by Miss Kayla Cunningham, ward of Angela Forrester, friend of Kayla's mother, Stephanie Cunningham.
Deciding that enough is enough, with her heart torn into pieces by Kayla's school paper, Angela makes, what could be, a life changing decision. Kayla had expressed her true feelings about Christmas and what she really wanted in the paper. Thusly, Angela makes the decision to return to her home in Virginia City, Nevada to explore the option of whether or not she should disclose to Kayla the identity of her biological father. But first, she must decide if she can tell Matthew Jackson about what really happened on that night thirteen years ago. Will Angela disclose the facts surrounding that night to Matt? What will his reaction be? Will Angela be the one to loose another person in her life that she loves and once again be alone? Read this story to find the answers to these questions. And, not to mention it all happens at Christmastime!

Once again Brenda did not disappoint. This was a heart warming book. One young girls wish is fulfilled.

Loved each story, but my favorite was Brenda Novak's 'Just Like the Ones We Use to Know'. The Second one, Melinda Curtis' 'The Night Before Christmas' was a very close second. All three stories, just because it was Christmas, made you want everything to turn out the way it should even more. 4 stars.

Loved each story, but my favorite was Brenda Novak's 'Just Like the Ones We Use to Know'. The Second one, Melinda Curtis' 'The Night Before Christmas' was a very close second. I liked all three short stories. They were filled with christmas spirt and finding love past, present, and future. I enjoyed it.

the 1st 2 stories were great! i only wished they were longer. . i did not enjoy the third story no matter how i tried. aborted at chapter 3.
