Poetry. "Andrea Witzke Slot's TO FIND A NEW BEAUTY is rich with cool, intelligent and carefully crafted poems that often have a subtext of terror and darkness. She uses a variety of personae Penelope, Eurydice, Io, the nymph on Keats's Grecian urn, a woman who marries her sister's widower and others in land- [and sea-] scapes that are powerful personae too in these poems." ...more

There is so much in this book of poems that I don't even know where to begin. This is some beautiful stuff!

First, I want to praise Slot for her narrative arcs in poems: Many of these poems (though certainly not all) are driven by her talent for crafting a narrative, but never falling into the trap of being chopped prose. Even with the story, the breaks are carefully chosen, the metaphors vivid and meaningful, and the places the poems take flight from and land to are always surprising or meditati

If you buy ONE poetry book this year (or ONE poetry book ever), buy this one. Nothing I could write in this review could do the book justice, but I'll try. I opened this small book of poems, and once I started, it was impossible to put down. It's Just. That. Gorgeous.
And Haunting. My favorite poems (it's so hard to select just a few) are "The hotel bed," about the ghosts of others who greet you in your hotel bed (in which they slept, wrestled, made love, cried), and "These city hives of unknowin

To Find a New Beauty is a book of poetry full of small treasures. Punctuated by a series of poems centering on the ocean, but also serving as an ars poetica, this collection has a quiet surface under which a current of passion surges.

I read this book in one day. Partly due to the fact that it only holds a hundred pages and partly to the fact that I love the book every part of this book is art. It deserves 5 stars however something big with me is to thank the reader. Without them you wouldn't be there. I not care how famous you are it doesn't matter if you do not have readers. If you are just starting you should care for any reads you get.

My favorite poems were these
