Emerine's Nightmare b Anna Del C. Dye is a fantasy for 4th-8th grade readers. Even though it is for middle grade readers, I really liked the story and the message it delivers.
Emerine is a 12 year old boy, who has seen both parents killed by dark shadows. He knows the dark shadows want him, but he has never heard of dark shadows. He has also never heard of enchanted trees, fairies and magic.

An interesting children's story that weaves in some fairytale elements and legends of the Faerie folk. Emerine is lost and alone after the people he thought to be his parents are killed by strange shadows. Left to find his own way to the mysterious Red Forest, he must first overcome his own self-doubt and fears. During his dangerous journey, he learns not all forces are good, and that he is more than he first appeared.

I thought this was a great tale to teach children to reach for the strength a
