This was an interesting read about conserving an untouched island of the Solomon island chain. John and Katherine Read first experienced Tetepare on their honeymoon, became inspired to help the owners of the preserve their island for the future.

Biggest uninhabited island in the South Pacific. Large expanse of intact lowland rainforest. Tetepare is certainly a special place. But the book revolves too much around the two Aussies who are assisting the local landowners. (Fair enough, I suppose; it is their book.) The author tends to downplay the efforts of others in the conservation area. There are many examples of world class conservation projects in Solomons - Tetepare is certainly not the first as claimed. Recommends it for: Travellers, biologists, conversationalists
A pretty incredible account of real-world conservation in one of the least developed and most threatened regions of the world. The book itself is expertly written, combining light-hearted travel writing with the drama of civil war, a dash of science, and a lot of fantastic characters and relationships.

My only complaint was with what felt like a slightly unsatisfying ending, although this probably has more to do with the reality of saving a wild island rich in timber resources in the Pacific tha
