Unlike other Vietnam novels, “716th” isn’t all that bloody. In fact, only two members of the 716th were actual casualties in the war. One was run over by a Red Cross donut truck and the other one died laughing.

Good humor in this book. A rare glimpse into the workings of the “rear area” of a war. Something you rarely see. However, given that this is humorous fiction (loosely based on fact by someone who actually worked in a supply depot), much of the book has to be taken with a wink and an occasional belly laugh.

The only place I’d fault it would be too much space devoted to Lt. Jingle’s stateside antics before he was shipped over (not that it’s not interesting and funny, just my humble opinion). I took
