As a top crew chief in NASCAR Winston Cup racing, Larry McReynolds has guided drivers such as Dale Earnhardt, Davey Allison, and Ernie Irvan to victory. His is a story of single-minded determination to succeed in the top tier of racing, regardless of setbacks. McReynolds, who is now a popular FOX broadcaster, brings a fresh perspective and fascinating stories that include radioing Earnhardt instructions where to accelerate in a turn, and getting bawled out in the NASCAR trailer by series boss Bill France for speaking his mind. This is an unparalleled insider's look at NASCAR racing.
I really enjoyed hearing how he came up through the sport kind of play by play. There wasn't a bunch of fluffy poetry but instead, just honest reporting of the grind it took him to get where he is today and candor about the people he worked with. Bought this at a used bookstore in Omaha because I thought 'this poor lonely Nascar book buried on the sports section. I want to show my love.'😂. And I loved this book!
This was one great read! Finally a racing book that tells the story of how a team really win. insight into the car set ups, tracks and drivers. So well written, with such personal experiences, especially in the wake of losing three drivers during ones career. A very respectable read, with many endearing and touching moments. Kudos to Larry Mac!
An amazing story of Larry's life in racing from just getting started via racing grassroots to being a big time crew chief for some of the best racers ever and finally to starting his broadcast career! A lot of awesome stories that were not seen on TV are included! This book shows how dedicated Larry was in making sure the car was perfect every weekend and describes all the success and tragedy throughout his career very well! This is a must read for everyone that is a fan of NASCAR!
