The second book in this trilogy was a fun read. I'd give it a 3.5 if I could. I liked it, but I didn't "really like it". It is good entertainment, and I enjoyed Brendan Fraser's reading. I was sorry to not have Vanessa Redgrave read it, but I grew to like BF's interpretation of the voices. There is a touch more evidence of this being for a younger audience, which is why it may have been a tiny bit tedious for me. I'm not quite finished listening to this the tale and narration has captivated me. As a fantasy author myself, the premiss of this story delights my creative juices. A story having a life of its own, and a reader being permitted to insert themselves into the story. . . fabulous speculations that make me say, "if only!" Mrs. Funke beautifully weaves the world inside the book and convincingly gets people from our world to travel within its pages. I listened to this story first because it was what ...more

It was a very well written book. This author does a good job at keeping the readers attention. I really loved this book, and so far I think this is my favorite of the trilogy.
